The Tiffin University men’s and women’s swimming and diving team broke 12
school records on the final day of the Calvin Winter Invite, Saturday at Venema
Aquatic Center.
For the men, Grand Valley State finished with 1320 points,
followed by Calvin (2nd – 583 points) and Wabash (3rd –
560.5). Tiffin finished in sixth with
256 points, ahead of arch-rival Findlay.
Freshman Kyle Doss was runner-up in the 200-yard individual
medley (1:53.37, school record) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.58). He broke the TU record in the 100 fly with a
50.27 in the pre-lims. Junior Ty Collins
swam a school record 1:55.35 to finish fifth in the 200 backstroke.
Additional school records came from junior Pedro Van Isschot
in the 100 freestyle (46.75), senior Alex Weaver on the 1- and 3-meter boards
(249.65 points, 251.90 points) and the 400 free relay team of Doss, Collins, freshman Ygor Zanardo and Van Iscchot
(3:12.68).
For the women, Grand Valley State scored 1192 points to
finish ahead of Northern Michigan (2nd – 742.5 points) and Calvin (3rd
– 593 points). Tiffin finished seventh
with 44 points.
Freshman Melinda Ulbrecht swam a school record 2:33.20 to
win the “C” final of the 200 breaststroke.
She also qualified for the “C” final of the 200 IM. In the prelims of the 200 back, junior Nicole
Twarek swam 2:33.41 to break the school record and qualify for the “C” final.
The 400 free relay team of Ulbrecht, freshman Brooke Hill,
freshman Lauren Sprenger and Twarek set the school record at 4:25.75. On the opening leg, Ulbrecht broke the TU
record for the 100 free at 1:02.61.
Tiffin is off until Friday, January 17 when they host Edinboro and Malone. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
