Indian River's Mallam to Move to A&M

Indiana River State College, long known for its streak of NJCAA titles has also long been a source of Division I coaches.  The first tradition continued in March when IRSC won its 39th consecutive championship. The later continued this morning with Texas A&M's hiring of Ryan Mallam as associate head coach.

Mallam just finished his third season as head coach of the Indian River State College swim teams who easily wrapped up their 39th and 32nd straight NJCAA national team titles last month. Prior to becoming the head coach at Indian River, Mallam served as an assistant at the school under Frank Bradley in 2010.

"I had the chance to talk to several really good people in this process, but in the end Ryan was who I felt was the right fit for our job," Texas A&M men's swimming head coach Jay Holmes said. "People I talked to about him kept using the same theme:  'innovative, hungry, cares about his athletes'. Every where he's been, his swimmers have really performed at a high level. We're looking for him to get here and make an immediate impact with what he brings to our program. It will be great having him here on campus and having his family become a part of the College Station community."

Mallam came to Indiana River from Limestone College where he directed the school to a fourth-place at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2009. That year he had 14 athletes qualify for the national meet, the most in school history.

Mallam swam collegiately at South Carolina, graduating in 2000 with a degree in business administration. He coached for Southern Crescent from 2002-08 before landing at Limestone.

Mallam replaces Doug Boyd who had been the assistant/associate head coach for the Aggies for the past nine seasons.

The Aggies graduate a pair of NCAA qualifiers in John Dalton and John Wagner, but return the bulk of the qualifiers including juniors Simon Frank, Henrik Lindau, Paul-Marc Schweitzer and Kyle Troskot and sophomore Luke Shaw.
