Yale Downs Vermont

The University of Vermont swimming and diving team fell on the road to Yale on Saturday afternoon, 209-74. With the loss the Catamounts fall to 6-3 on the season.

Freshman Kailey Gardner (Ithaca, N.Y.) earned the only win of the day for Vermont, as she took first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:21.26. The Catamounts finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke, as sophomore Caitlin Dowd (Setauket, N.Y.) posted a time of 1:09.03, while Jordan Schweizer (Evanston, Ill.) was right behind her in 1:10.65. Junior Kate Weaver (South Burlington, Vt.) earned a second-place showing in the 200 backstroke, finishing .10 seconds behind Yale's Molly Albrecht with a time of 2:03.85.

Dowd earned another second place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.14), while senior Molly MacMillan (Doylestown, Pa.) came in second in the 500 free (5:03.67).

"Our ladies competed very well today and I am pleased with how we raced. Yale is a really good program and had some great swims today," said Vermont head coach Gerry Cournoyer.

The Catamounts will look to bounce back tomorrow when they are back in action with a road meet against America East member New Hampshire starting at 11 a.m.
