Alicia Kemnitz

Head Coach

Alicia Kemnitz begins her 11th season as the head men and women’s swimming coach at Lindsey Wilson College in 2020-21. Kemnitz has turned a new program -- 2009-10 was the first year for Lindsey Wilson swimming -- into one that annually competes at the NAIA National Championships where the men's and women’s teams have combined for 12 top-10 finishes in ten seasons. For the 2019-20 season the Blue Raider men acheived their best finish at the national tournament, finishing in third place as the women tunrned in a 12th place finish. The men's program produced their first individual national championship as well at the event as Calvin Coetzee took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. During the 2018-19 season the Blue Raider men finished in seventh place as the women turned in an eight place finish at the NAIA National Championship. Men's swimming tallied six NAIA All-American honors, four in relays and two individually, along with three new Lindsey Wilson school records during the season. The women's swimming team tallied six All-American Honors, three in relays and three individual. The 2017-18 season proved to be a memorable one as the women's team achieved the best finish in program history at the NAIA National Championships as the Blue Raiders finished in fourth place as a team and had five NAIA All-Americans. Alexis Kessler captured three individual national titles after winning the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly events, earning NAIA Women's Swimmer of the Year honors in the process. Kessler became just the second national champion in swim program history and the first multi-championship winner. The men's program finished in 11th place at the national championships and saw four student-athletes earn NAIA All-American honors, just the second time in program history the men's program has collected the All-American honor. Kemnitz was named the Women's Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year in 2017-18. During the 2016-17 season, women's team achieved a fifth-place finish at the NAIA National Championships, while the men's team matched their best-ever finish at the time in eighth place. Ronni Borders picked up two NAIA All-American honors at the 2017 championships, becoming the first Blue Raider in program history to earn All-American honors in two separate seasons. On the men's side, Jonas Mueller became the first All-American in program history after placing third in the 200-yard breaststroke. For her efforts throughout the season, Kemnitz was named both the Men's and Women's Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year. At the 2016 NAIA National Championships, Kemnitz led both the men's and women's teams to the highest finishes in school history at the time as the men finished eighth and the women took sixth. Kemnitz coached the first NAIA Swimming National Champion in school history after Ronni Borders took home the title in the 100-yard breaststroke. Borders later earned All-American honors in the 200-yard breaststroke, becoming the first two-time All-American in program history. At the 2015 NAIA National Championships, the Blue Raider women matched their previous best-ever finish at the championships with their second-straight 10th-place finish while the men's team placed 14th. The 2014-15 season saw a historical moment as Laura Stephenson became the program's first-ever NAIA All-American after finishing in third-place in the 200-yard butterfly event. This past year’s national championship extended Kemnitz’s streak of sending swimmers to every NAIA National Championships since becoming the Blue Raiders’ coach. For her efforts in 2014-15, Kemnitz was named the MSC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year. During Kemnitz’s nine seasons in charge, the Blue Raider men are 54-29 in dual matches while the women are 56-25. The Lindsey Wilson men just missed a perfect dual season in 2013-14, going 6-1 during the season in head-to-head matches. Both squads suffered just one dual loss in 2015-16 as the men went 7-1 and the women went 8-1, followed by an 8-1 performance by the women in 2016-17. Both the men's and women's teams earned CSCAA Scholar Team honors in 2017-18 and 2018-19. During the 2017 season nine student-athletes were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes. This past season eight student-athletes earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors as Clemens Paetzold was named the Mid-South Conference Student-Athlete of the Year. Outside the pool, Kemnitz’s hard work -- along with other Mid-South Conference coaches – has resulted in swimming becoming a conference-sanctioned sport in 2014-15 with a championship and all-conference honors being awarded before the national championships. Prior to the 2014-15 season, Kemnitz and Lindsey Wilson had hosted the Mid-South Conference Invitational -- a non-championship event -- for two seasons on the Lindsey Wilson campus. Before coming to Lindsey Wilson, Kemnitz served one season as assistant coach at Lycoming (Pa.) after four years as the head coach at King’s (Pa.). While at Lycoming, Kemnitz helped lead the women’s program to the Middle Atlantic Conference title. It was the program’s first conference title in 13 seasons. She served as the team’s recruiting coordinator and aided in writing, organizing and leading practices. While at King’s, Kemnitz led the program to 34 school records during her four seasons and coached the first three all-conference swimmers since 1998. The program also grew from two swimmers following her first season to 19 in her final season. As a student-athlete at Hollins (Va.), Kemnitz was a two-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference performer. In 2007, Kemnitz, along with another inductee, became the youngest member of the Hollins Athletics Hall of Fame. Kemnitz graduated from Hollins in 2002 and later completed her master’s degree from Old Dominion (Va.) in 2005.In 2020, Kemnitz completed her doctorate degree.
