Former Tiger All-American Mabel Fowler will begin her first year as an assistant coach for the Trinity University men's and women's swimming & diving teams beginning in 2023-24.
"I am thrilled to welcome Mabel back to Trinity," said Head Coach Cathleen Pruden, who also led the search. "She had a successful career as a swimmer here, and was incredibly impactful at Swarthmore College in her first year on the pool deck. Her experiences at Trinity will be a big boost to our recruiting. I am excited for her to get started!"
Coach Fowler comes to Trinity after serving in a similar role at Swarthmore College, where she helped the men's and women's swimming & diving teams win back-to-back Centennial Conference Championships in 2022-23. Coach Fowler also saw Swarthmore qualify its largest team in school history for the NCAA III Championships, as well as establish 23 new school records during her season with the team. She has spent the last three summers as the head coach of the Alamo Heights Pool Sharks here in San Antonio.
"I am incredibly grateful for the year I spent at Swarthmore College," said Coach Fowler. "I appreciate the mentors I gained there and the wonderful athletes I was able to work with. Thank you SwatSwim Family. I am excited to be back home as Trinity University is the perfect place for me as a young professional to translate my passion for education and athletics to others. Thank you, Bob King and Cathleen Pruden, for this opportunity. I am elated to be a part of and continue the established success of the institution and program that shaped me. Once a Tiger, always a Tiger."
Coach Fowler earned All-American honors at Trinity in 2019 and 2020, qualifying for the NCAA III Championships three times in her career, and leading her teams to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships every year that she competed. She was the SCAC Swimmer of the Meet in 2020 and 2021, as well as the SCAC Swimmer of the Year in 2020. Coach Fowler is also the league's most decorated swimmer, setting the conference's all-time record with 13 individual wins at the SCAC Championships during her career. She still holds six Trinity swimming records, including four individual events and two relays.
The Trinity women's swimming & diving team won its 20th consecutive SCAC Championship last year, while the men's team secured its 11th conference title in the last 12 years. Coach Pruden is entering her third season in charge of the Tiger men's and women's programs and has sent a record number of participants to the NCAA III Championships in each of her first two years.
