Teresa (Zurick) Fish, who has been named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin "Coach of the Year" 10 times, has been the Illinois Wesleyan swimming and diving coach since 1995. CCIW COACH OF THE YEAR HONORS: Women's Swimming: 2000, 2001, 2003, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 Men's Swimming: 1996, 2007, 2009 Fish led the women's team to its second consecutive top-25 finish at Nationals in March 2017, highlighted by the program's first national champion, Meg Stanley in the 500 free (4:50.76). Stanley also finished third in the 1650 (16:41.93) and was named Academic All-American of the Year by CoSIDA. Both men's and women's teams were named Scholar All-American, and nine Titans earned All-CCIW honors. Fish coached six All-CCIW swimmers in 2016, including the "Swimmer of the Meet" (Meg Stanley). Stanley set the meet and open record with a time of 16:59.48 in the 1650 freestyle. Fish was named as the 2015 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin "Coach of the Year" and coached the "Swimmer of the Meet" (Kirsten Slaughter) and the women's "Outstanding Participant" (Meg Stanley). Slaughter, who was an All-American in the 50 freestyle, was the co-winner of the 2015 CCIW "Female Swimmer of the Year" award. Fish was named as the 2014 CCIW "Coach of the Year" and in the 2014 CCIW meet, Fish coached the "Swimmer of the Meet" (Slaughter) and the women's "Outstanding Participant" (Stephanie Manikas). She coached two NCAA Division III All-Americans - Slaughter for her fifth place national finish in the 50 freestyle and Marcus Duval for his 15th place national finish in the 400 individual medley. The 2013 season was highlighted by senior Katie McHugh's third place national finish in the 200 butterfly as the IWU women's team tied for 30th place in the national meet. McHugh was also chosen as the women's "Outstanding Performer" for the CCIW meet, earning a first and two second places individually and swimming on three top-three finishing relay teams. In 2012, Fish coached CCIW “Swimmer of the Year” Katie McHugh and also helped the Titan women’s team to a third CCIW finish, being chosen as the CCIW "Coach of the Year" for women's swimming.. She also led the men’s swimming team to a third place CCIW finish. In 2011, Fish coached the "Most Outstanding Participant" in the women's (Angela Lugg) in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet and Fish was chosen as the CCIW "Coach of the Year" for women's swimming. Also in 2011, Fish coached the "Most Outstanding Participants" in both the men's (Mikey Firth) and women's (Andrea Peterson) in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet and Peterson was a two-time Division III All-American as she finished fifth in the 200 backstroke and fourth in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA championships. In 2007 and 2009, Fish was chosen as the CCIW "Coach of the Year" for men's swimming and, in 2010, her women's team finished third and the men's team placed fourth in the CCIW meet as Michael Kozak was named "Outstanding Male Participant of the Meet" and was the winner of the inaugural CCIW "Male Swimmer of the Year" honor. After joining IWU in 1995, she promptly led the men's swimming team to its first-ever CCIW championship in 1996 and earned CCIW "Men's Coach of the Year" honors. A native of Darien, Ill., and a graduate of Hinsdale South High School, Fish earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1988 at Kenyon (Ohio) College, where from 1985-88 she won 14 NCAA Division III swimming titles and earned 27 swimming All-American honors as well as being named an Academic All-American. In September 2005, Fish was part of the 1986-87 Kenyon swim team that was inducted into the Kenyon Athletic Association Hall of Fame. The 1987 Kenyon women's swim team won the national Division III title, taking 15 of 18 events including all five relays. Fish earned a master's degree at Duke University and was pursuing a doctorate in biochemistry at Duke when she elected to start her coaching career at IWU. In Durham, N.C., she coached United States Swimming and YMCA age group programs and also coached the Durham Academy girls' team to a high school state championship in 1994. In 2002, Teresa was married to John Fish and they are the parents of George.

Tommy Gilbert

A 2012 Illinois Wesleyan graduate, Tommy Gilbert became a full-time assistant swimming coach at Illinois Wesleyan in August 2016 after serving two seasons as a graduate assistant (2013-15) and one year as a part-time assistant coach (2015-16). As a Titan swimmer he earned four letters from 2009 to 2012 and was a multiple-time all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin performer, including in the 100 breaststroke as a senior. He also earned CCIW "Men's Swimmer of the Week" honors once in the 2009-10 season. A native of Northbrook (Ill.) and graduate of Glenbrook North High School, Gilbert has a master's degree in sports management from Illinois State University after graduating with degrees in hIstory and secondary education at Illinois Wesleyan. He was also active with the campus radio station (WESN-FM) as a sports broadcaster during his college career.
