John Bodden

Head Coach

Bodden joins the Catholic University swimming and diving teams for his first year as a graduate assistant coach in 2022-23. Bodden brings experience from both his time in the pool as a student athlete and on the pool deck as an assistant coach at DII McKendree University. He acted as a volunteer assistant coach for one season, assisting coaches with the planning and adminstering practices specific to different strokes and athletes. During the 2021-22 season, he coached 10 individual athletes that qualified for DII NCAA Championships, one of which secured a fourth-place finish at the NCAA DII National Championships meet. During his time in the pool, he earned all-conference honors twice as he was named to the Great Lakes Valley Conference second team in 2018 and the first team in 2021. A native of George Town in the Grand Cayman Islands, Bodden also represented his country at the Pan American Games in 2019. Held that year in Lima, Peru, the Pan American Games is a continental multi-sport event in which athletes from 41 countries and territories in North, Central and South America compete. Competing on this top international stage, Bodden secured top-16 finishes in both the 400-meter freestyle and the 1500-meter freestyle (LCM). In addition to his year of coaching experience at McKendree, he acted as an assistant coach in the Stingray Swim Club program in his native Cayman Islands. In that role, he worked with a diverse group of athletes that ranged from ages nine to high school and collegiate ages, as well as working with athletes with special needs. During his time at the club, he assisted in planning and administering practices as well as macro and mirco cycles. He worked directly with mid-distance and distance senior athletes and oversaw collegiate swimmers. In addition, he maintained the Team Unify Website and utilized the platform to streamline communication. Bodden held student internships at the Grand Cayman Health Service Authority on two seperate occassions, the second of which was during the COVID-19 pandemic. He sorted and entered COVID-19 vacation data that directly attributed to the country's herd immunity statistics, which had direct impact on national decisions about travel, tourism and openness of boarders. He also assisted in maintaining a positive ratio of completed data entries to incoming data and worked with sensitive patient fianancial data. He graduated from McKendree magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and will pursue his master's degree in psychology at Catholic.
