Jonathan Powers was named head coach of the Knox College Prairie Fire swimming teams in May of 2009.
Powers is an assistant professor of economics at Knox who swam for four years at Amherst College, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1987. He was captain of the swim team at Amhurst his senior year and helped lead his squad to a 25th place finish at the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships. Powers also competed in water polo at Amherst, serving as captain his senior year. Powers in recent years has competed in several triathlons, including the 2009 Ford Ironman Wisconsin. He completed the 140.6 mile event in just over 13 hours.
A member of the Knox faculty since 2000, Powers teaches microeconomics, industrial organization, and game theory, and he's presented research papers at the American Economic Association, Midwest Economic Association, and Western Economic Association annual meetings.
