Tony DeMuro

Head Coach

Maine native Tony DeMuro was named the Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach at Maine Maritime Academy by Director of Athletics, Steve Peed on October 10. "I couldn't be more thrilled to join the Maine Maritime team as the swim coach," said DeMuro. "This fulfills a lifelong dream of mine and I can't wait to work hand-in-hand with the great faculty and students at MMA." A 1999 graduate from University of Maine at Orono, DeMuro has served as the head swim coach at Mount Desert Island High School since 2000. While at MDI, DeMuro led the Trojans to a total of 11 state championships, five sportsmanship awards and has been named the Class B Coach of the Year six times. "I am incredibly excited to be welcoming such an experienced and accomplished coach as Tony into our department, and I love how excited our swimmers are about the opportunity to train under and compete for him," said Peed. "His positive energy and endless enthusiasm will be a great asset for our swimmers, our department, and our campus community. I can't wait to see him on deck developing our athletes as swimmers and aspiring professionals." DeMuro also served as the assistant YMCA swim coach since 2000, where he mentored kids from the ages of 5-18 and has been the Physical Education teacher at Cranberry Island School since 2017.
