Head Coach

An illustrious career that includes more than 28 years of coaching experience, Oscar Roverato joined the UNC Pembroke athletics department as its interim swimming & diving head coach in August 2018. Roverato comes to Pembroke with an impressive foundation of success in the swimming pool. He founded the USA Swimming-certified Fayetteville Aquatic Swim Team in 2005 and has served as both owner and head coach of that organization for the last 13 years. His swimming & diving background also includes a three-year stint as both coach and aquatic director for the Fayetteville YMCA, as well as a two-year stay as the aquatics instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Prior to his beginning his career as a swimming & diving coach, Roverato served as an assistant coach for the volleyball and tennis programs at Fayetteville State from 1998-2003. He also served as an associate professor in physical education at Sandhills Community College during the 2007-08 academic year. A Level III-IV USA Swimming-certified coach, Roverato also holds American Red Cross Certifications in first aid, water safety and lifeguard training. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports science from the University of America in 2003, and earned his master’s degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy in 2007.
