Coach Derek Shipp joined the FAST coaching staff in April 2012. He is the lead group coach for the swimmers in the Age Group program.
Prior to joining FAST, Derek started his coaching career as an assistant coach for Swim Atlanta in Roswell, GA. After that, Derek was the head age group coach for the Old Dominion Aquatic Club in Norfolk, VA from 1994-2001. Derek coached for the Kansas City Blazers (KCB) from 2001-2011. During his time there, he was the head site coach for two different pools, the first coach of the senior group, head masters coach, and head coach of the district’s summer league team.
Coach Derek is a 1990 graduate of the University of Georgia where he swam for four years and finished as a team captain. Derek brings 20+ years of coaching experience that spans every level from the novice age group swimmer to the national group swimmer to the adult master’s swimmer. Throughout his career, Derek has coached multiple swimmers to ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) recognition level and also 2 World Record Relays at the Master’s level. Derek was recognized by ASCA in 1997 for Excellence in the Teaching of Stroke Technique. He also received the Councilman Creative Coaching Award from ASCA in 2009. He is a certified ASCA Level 3 Age Group coach.
