This was another exciting week with Conference Championships almost coming to a close. With so many fast, exhilarating swims, there were some close calls and tough picks for this week’s National and Conference Swimmers of the Week.
Division I National Swimmers of the Week are Kathleen Baker (Cal) and Felix Auboeck (Michigan). Baker earned victories in the 200 back and 200 IM at the Pac 12 Championships, but perhaps her biggest victories came from relay swims; Baker was on four winning relays for Cal, helping qualify more Cal swimmers for NCAAs. On the men’s side, Aubeck won the 500 and 1,650 freestyles at the Big Ten Championships in times of 4:09.29 and 15:34.10, respectively. Those times also rank him 1st (500) and 2nd (1650) in the NCAA.
This week’s Mid Major award winners are Naomi Ruele (FIU) and Brennan Novak (Harvard). Ruele saw the top of the podium three times as she earned victories in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back. She was also on four victorious relays for FIU. Novak also won three events for Harvard at the Ive League Champs (500 free, 1000 free, and 1650 free).
Nova Southeastern sweeps the Division II awards as Courtney Deveny and Franco Lupoli earn national honors. Deveny swam her way to the top of the podium in the 200 fly, 200 back 200 IM, and 400 IM. Lupoli earns his 2nd National award as he won the 1000 and 1650 freestyles at the Sunshine State Conference Championships. He also posted a 4:26.03 from the B final, which would have placed 2nd.
Abby VanHarn (Calvin) and Karl Sarier (Bowdoin) are this week’s Division III Swimmers of the Week. This is VanHarn's 3rd National Award.
All selections are independent of selections made by each conference. Winners are selected from results submitted by Midnight EST each Monday.
