Dresel's Record Week Leads National Honors

This was an exciting week to say the least. After setting 2 American Records, Caeleb Dressel was named this week’s Division I Swimmer of the Week. Dressel shattered David Nolan’s 200 IM NCAA record with a time of 1:38.13 and set a new 100 breast NCAA record with a 50.03. Lilly King was named the female Division I Swimmer of the Week after destroying the competition in both breaststroke events at the Big Ten Championships. King currently leads the NCAA in the 100 breast (56.46) and sits in second place in 200 breast (2:04.68).

Franziska Weidner (Hawaii) and Logan Hotchkiss (UC-Santa Barbara) were named this week’s Mid Major Swimmers of the Week. Weidner led the Hawaii Women to a conference championship as she claimed 3 individual titles at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 IM. Hotchkiss also led the UC-Santa Barbara men to a MPSF Championship as he placed first in the 500 and 1,650 freestyles, and second in the 200 freestyle.

This week’s Division II National winners are Laura Fornshell of Fresno Pacific and Paul Pijulet of Queens (NC). Fornshell claimed 4 events winning the 500 free, 1,000 free, 1,650 free, and 400 IM at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships. Pijulet also claimed 3 individual events (100 fly, 100 back, 200 back).

Division III award winner’s for this week are Crile Hart (Kenyon) and Thomas Gordon (Emory). Sara Lacusky (SCAD) and Iran Cavalcante-Ameida (Olivet Nazarene) are this week’s NAIA national winners. Monroe Community College swept this week’s NJCAA awards as Alicia Shenal and Gabriel Knaut were named this week’s Swimmers of the Week.

All selections are independent of selections made by each conference.  Winners are selected from results submitted by Midnight EST each Monday.
