National Swimmers-of-the-Week November 6-12

 

This week's Division I National winners went to a pair of ACC Swimmers. Carolina Baldwin from UNC won the 50 and 100 free events against Texas and now ranks 3rd (50 free) and 7th (100 free) nationally. On the men's side, Anton Ipsen gave NC State their 4th National award. Ipsen swept the distance events to help lead NC State to a win against Texas. Ipsen posted times that place him 2nd in the 500 free and 1st in the 1,000 free across the NCAA. 

The Ivy League grabs both of the Mid Major National Awards. Brown's Taylor Seaman swept the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles in Brown's win over MIT. While Yale's Kei Hyogo also swept three events (500 free, 1,000 free, and 200 fly) to place him atop the Ivy League leader boards in all three events. 

Findlay swimmer's win both the Division II Awards. Amanda Stiegal came away from this past weekend a perfect 6 for 6 in all of her events. Janko Radmonovic also won all of his events to add 7 wins to his total for the year.

Abby VanHarn (Calvin) and Brandon McKenzie (MIT) are this week's winners for Division III. VanHarn won the 50, 100, and 200 frees to lead Calvin to a win over Wheaton. 

Morningside's Suzanna Gonzalez and West Virginia Tech's Marcos de Paula Damaso win the NAIA National Awards for this week. While Elianna Kennon (Indian River) and Noah Dalton (Iowa Central) are this week's NJCAA Awards. 

These selections are independent of selections made by each conference. Winners are selected from results submitted by Midnight EST each Monday.

National Highlights

  • National winners tallied 43 wins Findlay's Stiegal (3 individual and three relay) and Radomadovic (5 individual and two relay) were perfect , Baldwin and Ipsen were 2 for 2 in individual events
  • NC State's 4th National Award - most among Division I Swimmers - earned by four different swimmers - Previous winners were Andreas Vazaios (Feb 6, 2017), Ryan Held (Jan 29, 2017 and Simonas Bilis (10/11/2015)
  • First men's national awards for Yale (Mid-Major), Findlay (Division II), WVU Tech (NAIA) and MIT (Division III)
  • Indian River - 10th women's award, one more than Drury for most
  • Abby VanHarn's and Calvin's second national award.  She previously won 10/26/2016
  • Susanna Gonzalez's and Morningside's second NAIA award - won last month 10/17/2017
  • UNC's second national award, last was Rachel Carty (2/8/2016)
  • Brown (Mid-Major) and Findlay's (Division II) first National Awards
