CSU Pueblo Press Release
GREELEY, Colo. (January 28, 2017) – In a tri-meet, Colorado State University – Pueblo Swimming & Diving defeated University of Nebraska Kearney 149-69, but could not upset Division I foe, University of Northern Colorado in a 143-71 final.
The ThunderWolves defeated the Lopers in 11 of 13 events. Northern Colorado swimmers won 10 events overall.
Reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, April McDonough (Jr., Frisco, Texas) won the 500 free for the third consecutive meet. McDonough finished first in a time of 5:40.03 to claim first place points, beating the second place finisher by 29 seconds.
In the 1000 free, McDonough finished third, but earned first place points against UNK. McDonough's time of 11:18.65 topped the closest Loper by over a minute. She placed sixth overall in the 100 free (57.37).
Sophomore Arianna Rohde (Anchorage, Alaska) gave the Pack its second of two overall wins in individual events. Rohde reached the wall in a time of 2:21.67 to take first place points in the 200 back.
Rohde added a second place overall finish in the 200 individual medley. Her time of 2:20.88 stood 12 seconds better than anyone from UNK. She would anchor the Pack's 200 medley relay team to a win over UNK and third place finish overall.
Stefany Busch (So., Carlsbad, Calif.) claimed second place in the one meter diving event. Busch finished with 214.35 points to earn her second silver medal spot in as many weeks.
Jade Irick (So., Idaho Falls, Idaho) won the 200 butterfly in the Pack's dual with UNK with a mark of 2:27.00. Irick took fourth place in the event overall. She was also the Pack's top finisher in the 50 free (27.00).
Freshman Phoebe Pontious (Caledonia, Mich.) picked up two fourth place finishes. She topped all D-II swimmers in the 100 free with a time of 56.29. Pontious also placed fourth overall and first among D-II swimmers in the 200 free (2:02.18).
CSU-Pueblo finishes its dual season with a 2-6 record. The ThunderWolves won three meets overall in their regular season.
With their dual season in the books, the Pack will head to the RMAC Championships. The RMAC Championships will run from Feb.8-11 at the El Pomar Natatorium in Grand Junction, Colo.
