Pacific Sweeps UC Santa Cruz

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers picked up two more wins on points today, making it wins in five of the last six possible matchups for Pacific.  The women's team defeated UC Santa Cruz 138-74 while the men, in their final meet before the MPSF Championships, won 143-86.

The Tigers had the best time in every single one of the 28 events today to come away with the big win.  That included four more relay wins as Pacific swept the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Cai Hong Singh, Semaj Walker, Jillian Hatch, and Taylor Hosmer combined for the win with a time of 1:48.43.  Pacific actually finished first, second, and third in that event.  The team of Isabella Green, Whitney Jorgensen, Roslyn Kackman, and Becca Aguilar swam a 1:52.29 while Kenna Ramey, Angela Gagliardo, Adri Piccininni, and Danielle Garrett swam a 1:54.81.

For the  men, it was Dylan Toy, Brandon Reno, Raju Kolluru, and Lane Goedhart coming away with the win thanks to a 1:35.08.  That put them ahead of Pacific's team of Curtis Klein, Neil Byers, Jared Vu, and Stephen Blevins, who swam a 1:35.89.

In the 200 Free Relay, the Tigers won thanks to a 1:24.52 time by Mitchell Ongstad, Georan Meendering, Goedhart, and Vu.  The women's team of Vaiva Gimbutyte, Emily Saccullo, Kackman, and Jorgensen also won, swimming a 1:44.24.

19 different Tigers won individual events on the day.  Brigid McNally led the way with two wins, taking a 200 Free title with a 1:59.25 and winning the 200 IM with a 2:13.39.  Neil Franka also won two events: the 200 Free (1:43.13) and the 200 IM (1:56.37).  Hosmer was the final Tiger with multiple individual wins, taking the 200 Fly with a 2:11.15 and the 200 Back with a 2:16.05.

Sonya Ahmadyar and Meendering each won the 100 Back.  Ahmadyar put up a time of 1:08.03 for the women while Meedering swam a 52.15.

In the 100 breast, it was Yahav Shahaf and Hatch who had wins.  Shahaf had a time of 1:00.37 while Hatch swam a 1:09.51.

The 50 Free saw Pacific's top times go to Ramey and Mitchell Ongstad, both of whom already hold the Pacific season top time in those events.  Ongstad, who set the school record earlier this year, swam a 20.73, while Ramey swam a 24.01.

In the 100 Free, it was Goedhart who won for the men with his time of 46.10.  For the women, Meredith Lillie swam a 53.52 to get the win.

Devon Thumwood, Miles MacKenzie, Stewart Harrison, Kolluru, and Klein had wins for the men's team as well.  Thumwood won the 200 breast (2:26.75), MacKenzie the 500 Free (4:46.44), Harrison the 100 Fly (50.12), Kolluru the 200 Fly (2:00.83), and Klein the 200 Back (1:50.57).

Pacific's final three wins came from Lauren Atkins, Jorgensen, and Saccullo.  Atkins won the 500 Free with her 5:11.62 time.  Jorgensen added a win in the 500 Free (5:11.62) while Saccullo took home the 200 Breast (2:40.68).

The Tigers women's team will have one more meet before the MPSF Championships begin on February 15.  Pacific will take on UC Davis on Saturday, February 4 at Davis at noon.
