Bentley Sweeps St. Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Reg. HS), sophomore Brooke Jameson (Bedford, Mass./Bedford HS) and freshman Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./ Wethersfield HS)each won two individual events for the Bentley University women’s swimming and diving team Saturday against St. Michael’s College at the Ross Sports Center.

Their efforts in the 148-84 victory helped Bentley run its dual winning streak to nine and improve to 9-1 on the season. St. Michael’s, 5-1, saw its winning streak end at eight.

McGahie posted a time of 18:57.51 while capturing the 1650 yard freestyle and also reached the wall first in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:35.20. Jameson swam to victory in both the 200 free (2:02.99) and the 500 free (5:30.85).

Logozzo doubled in the two one-meter diving events, achieving a combined score of 357.25.

The other individual winners for Bentley were senior Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./ Pomperaug HS) in the 50 free (26.80), junior Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis C. Maloney HS) in the 200 individual medley (2:14.29) and junior Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) in the 200 butterfly (2:18.87).

Bentley’s next action is Wednesday with a home meet against Bridgewater State (6 pm).

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Sophomore Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) and senior Greg Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) were double-winners as the Bentley University men’s swimming and diving team improved to 10-0 in dual competition with a 154-65 victory at St. Michael’s College Saturday afternoon.

The ten wins ties the school record for most in a season, set in 1997-98 and matched ten years later. The Falcons will have a chance to break the record when they host Bridgewater State in the final dual of the seasonWednesday night.

Elenio turned in winning swims in both the 1650 yard freestyle (17:21.46) and the 200 butterfly (2:03.18) while Coleman swept the two one-meter diving events with a combined score of 390.40.

Junior Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) was also instrumental in the victory as he won the 200 backstroke (2:04.55), anchored the Falcons’ winning 200 medley relay (1:45.41), and swam the opening leg in the 200 free relay, which Bentley won in 1:33.44.

Other individual winners for Bentley were senior Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS) in the 50 free (22.67), junior Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) in the 200 free (1:51.51), juniorJonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) in the 200 individual medley (2:03.39), sophomore Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) in the 500 free (5:00.83) and freshman Sam Trozenski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon HS) in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.93).

Dating back to last season, Bentley has won 12 straight dual meets.

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams were swept by regional powerhouse Bentley University on Saturday during Senior Day in the Ross Sports Center.
 
The 5-1 women fell to the 9-1 Falcons, 148-82, while seeing an eight-dual-meet winning streak come to an end. It was their longest run of success since claiming 10 in a row between the 1994-95 and 1995-96 school years. The Purple Knights' last lost had also been to Bentley, which has now won nine straight. The 2-3 Saint Michael's men dropped a 154-65 decision against the Falcons, who are 10-0 and pushed their winning streak to 12.
 
Junior Ally Fischang (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) played a hand in a pair of victories, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 58.87 - beating the runner-up by 0.01 seconds - while leading off for the top 200 free relay. She joined sophomores Elizabeth Doherty (Dedham, Mass./Dedham), Tess Grimaldi (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) and Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) on the quartet, which clocked in at 1:49.91. Fischang also placed third in the 200 free.
 
Senior Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.51, which was just 0.10 seconds short of the top time in the Northeast-10 Conference this winter. It was the 95th victory of her career. She also took second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:14.44, just 0.15 seconds short of the winner and 0.42 ticks shy of the year-old school record, and led off for the runner-up 200-yard medley relay, which clocked in at 1:57.56 to lose by only 0.48 seconds. Kohn, senior Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow) and first-year Lauren Giampietro (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) also completed legs.
 
Giampietro was second in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Kohn took second in the 1,650 free, followed by first-year Sarah Brennan (Glen Rock, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) in third. Junior Genevieve Gigandet (Groveland, Mass./Central Catholic) was second in both one-meter diving events, including falling just 8.2 points short of the winner in one of the competitions, and first-year Reiley Adelson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) nabbed second during the 500 free. Wiesner touched the wall second in the 50 free and third during the 200-yard butterfly. Grimaldi was fourth in the 50 free, just 0.04 seconds short of third place.
 
First-year Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) picked up the lone victory for the men, topping the 100 free in 50.91 while swimming for the third-place 200 medley relay. He joined senior Stephen Andersen (Concord, N.H./Concord), sophomore Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) and first-year Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) on the relay.
 
Sophomore Pat Thornton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) was the runner-up in both the 200 fly and 200 free races, and junior Spencer Ralston (Hebron, Conn./Cushing Academy) took second in the 1,650 free and fourth during the 500 free. Senior Ryan Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) was third during the 50 and 100 free events while also joining brother Seamus, Andersen and Ralston on the fourth-place 200 free relay.
 
Mulderrig claimed fourth during the 200 IM, while Thornton, senior Sean Glasheen (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and juniors Jake Fox (Cranston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) and Michael May (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) comprised the fourth-place 200 medley relay quartet. May was fourth in the 200 breast.
 
Prior to the meet, Andersen, Ryan Butler, Glasheen, McNall, Wiesner and Cymantha Rogers (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) were all honored during a Senior Day ceremony.
 
The Purple Knights conclude their home slate tomorrow by facing The College of Saint Rose at 1 p.m.
