Westminster Sweeps Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams swept Saint Vincent College on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
 
The Titan men’s team won 170-96, while the Titan women’s team won 163-128. Westminster won a total of 19 events, not including three events in which it used exhibition swimmers.
 
For the men’s team (5-3, 2-0 PAC), sophomore David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) set a pool record in the 200 backstroke as he won with a time of 1:54.02. Peffer was also the first leg of the 200 medley relay that touched first (1:37.53). Completing the quartet were senior Sam Angelo (Warren, OH / Warren G. Harding), junior Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin), and sophomore Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield). Angelo also swept the breaststroke events (100/1:01.17 and 200/2:16.58), while Kolesar won both butterfly events (100/53.01 and 200/2:00.51). Junior Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) won a team-high three individual events: the 200 freestyle (1:44.04), the 500 freestyle (4:56.15), and the 100 freestyle (47.51). Freshman Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) (100 backstroke/55.83), Spencer (50 freestyle/21.77), and senior Jeremy Wiening (Trophy Club, TX / Byron Nelson) (1-meter diving/124.85) also picked up first-place finishes.
 
For the women’s team (5-4, 2-1 PAC), first-year Abbie Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) won a team-best three individual events: the 100 breaststroke (1:08.85), the 200 breaststroke (2:32.21), and the 200 IM (2:17.77). Junior Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) won both butterfly events (200/2:16.70 and 100/1:01.64). First-year Kaitlyn Fast (Wooster, OH / Wooster) placed first in both diving events: 1-meter (197.40) and 3-meter (201.30). Additionally, senior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) won the 1,000 freestyle (11:01.80).
 
Westminster is back in the pool Wednesday, January 25 with a dual meet at Grove City College starting at 6 p.m.
