Kenyon Cleans Up Against Wittenberg

GAMBIER, Ohio – After a holding a pre-meet presentation to honor the team's ten senior members, the Kenyon College Lords swept all 17 swimming and diving events Saturday and rolled to a 156-77 dual-meet win against the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers.

Eight members of the Kenyon senior class logged event wins during the meet. In fact, seniors Oscar Anderson, Trevor Manz, Nick Gutsche and Austin Pu teamed up to open the competition with a winning time of 1:34.44 in the 200-yard medley relay.

In individual events, senior Arthur Conover led the way. He claimed the top spots in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races with respective times of 1:42.74 and 4:39.50. In between those two victories, fellow Kenyon seniors Ian Reardon and Manz added to the team's win total. Reardon was first in the 100-yard backstroke (52.09), while Manz touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.00).    
             

The senior class victories were not limited to the lanes. Derek Hoare piled up 242.55 points and took first place on the three-meter diving board. Prior to that result, sophomore Ryder Sammons won the one-meter competition with a score of 179.90.

David Perez represented Kenyon's junior class by cruising to a win in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.52). Sophomores Brooks McCoy, Weston Carpenter and AJ Reid logged more individual-event wins. McCoy took the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:46.86), Weston won the 100-yard freestyle (47.19) and Reid was the fastest in the 100-yard butterfly (52.16).

Kenyon freshmen Connor Rumpit, Carter Brzezinski, Kieran Allsop and Mick Bartholomew helped complete the Kenyon sweep. Rumpit was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (21.90), Brzezinski claimed the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.60), Allsop was first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.11) and Bartholomew rounded out the group with a win in the 200-yard individual medley (1:53.87).

The meet came to a close with Rumpit joining the team of Ben Baturka, Tommy Weiss and Chris Rutter. Thar group claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.17.

The Lords will now turn their focus toward the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, a four-day event that starts Wednesday, February 8 in Granville, Ohio.

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies won every event on Saturday as they defeated Wittenberg University 157-101 in the team's lone dual meet of the season. It was Senior Day for Kenyon who honored the careers of Ellie Crawford, Laura Duncan, Sarah Lloyd, Amelia Loydpierson, Jenner McLeod and Ellis Wood before the meet.
 
Duncan got one of the Ladies' 16 wins during the day as she competed in the 100 breaststroke event. The Fremont, Ohio native clocked in at 1:07.58.
 
There were a handful of other Kenyon swimmers that claimed multiple victories during the afternoon. 

Marysol Arce won the 500 and 1000 freestyle events while Hannah Orbach-Mandel took first in the 100 butterfly and 50 free. Freshman Sydney Matteson also won twice during the 200 fly and 200 individual medley with times of 2:12.28 and 2:10.83, respectively.
 
Another first-year swimmer, Zoe Toscos, was also a part of a few wins. She claimed the 100 free in 52.99 and swam a leg in the 200 medley relay which touched the wall in 1:48.18. In the relay, Summer Otazu, Andjela Vasic and Hollie Hopf also swam for Kenyon.
 
The Ladies' other relay win came in the 200 freestyle as Vasic, Kendall Vanderhoos, Natalie Bresnahan and Toscos finished in 1:39.39.
 
Sophomores Abby Wilson, Delaney Ambrosen and Caitlin Foley were able to earn three victories for the Ladies. Wilson clocked in at 1:52.88 during the 200 free, Ambrosen completed the 100 back in 59.57 and Foley checked in at 2:06.43 in the 200 backstroke.
 
Additionally, Julia Wilson earned a first-place finish and 'B' cut time in the 200 breaststroke event with a mark of 2:20.92.
 
In diving competition, Frances Andersen Bicknell came in first on the one-meter board (168.75) and Madeline Carlson won the three-meter board (218.77).
 
Next up for the Ladies is the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship which begins February 8 at Denison University. Kenyon claimed the championship title a year ago, its first since 2008.
