The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team returned to its home pool on Saturday and topped Northeastern with an impressive 151-149 victory.  Junior diver Annemarie Durham set a new pool record in both the 1 meter and 3 meter events in the win, which is the first-ever for the Blue Devils over the Huskies. 

Central secured the victory with a spectacular 1-2-3 performance in the 200 individual medley in the second-to-last event of the day.  Sophomore Aidan Devers claimed the win with a time of 2:10.59 while junior Maddy Garber was second in 2:10.97 and senior Lisa Ward was third in 2:11.11.  The swim gave the Blue Devils 16 points and an 11 point edge heading into the final event.

The Blue Devils claimed second place in the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay, to secure four points and the meet victory.

The Blue Devils began the day with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.  The team of sophomore Kaitlyn Troy, Garber, senior Sabree Thomas and senior Christine Rasile finished in a time of 1:45.93.

Freshman Valentina Gomez finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 10:35.44 while junior Maeve Awiszus was third in a time of 10:44.31

Rasile won the 200 yard freestyle I a time of 1:54.86, finishing ahead of junior Lauren Czulewicz (1:55.56) and Devers (1:56.36) who were second and third in the event.

Troy won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 59.05, while freshman Alexis Fredricks was third in 59.10.

Garber won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.55, while freshman Erika Maercklein was third in 1:05.66.

Gomez finished second in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:07.95 and Thomas finished just behind in third place with a time of 2:09.61.

Rasile was second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.39. 

Durham, fresh off setting a school-record in the 3 and 1 meter diving on Friday night at Yale, set a new CCSU pool record while winning the 3 meter event with a score of 280.35. 

Rasile finished second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.30. 

Devers finished first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.68, followed by Alexis Fredricks (2:06.10) in second place.

Garber placed first in the 200 breaststroke as the Blue Devils placed first, second and fourth in the event.  Garber won in a time of 2:22.94, while senior Lisa Ward was second in a time of 2:25.30 and freshman Keelin Kendall was fourth in a time of 2:26.23.

Gomez finished third in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:13.55. Thomas was third in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.17.

Durham impressed again and set her second pool record on the day with a score of 286.27 in the 1 meter dive.  She topped the old pool record by more than 27 points.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Twenty different Husky swimmers and divers put their name on the score sheet as Central Connecticut (4-3, 2-0 NEC) outswam Northeastern (6-3, 2-2 CAA) in the final race to take the meet 151-149.
 
The teams were even split in first place finishes, each notching eight. Megan Clark grabbed two, while Delaney Lanker, Carly Schnabel, Sara Touchette-McGowan and Kerry Treusdell each contributed one.
 
Northeastern outscored Central Connecticut 58-37 in freestyle events and 26-12 in the butterfly, however, the Blue Devils held a strong 29-9 advantage in both the backstroke and breaststroke. The Huskies also controlled the relays, outperforming CCSU 26-8
 
On the diving board, Caroline Gonsalves shined for the Red and Black, earning second in both events behind the top diver in the NEC. Gonsalves recorded a score of 275.55 in the three-meter event and set a new season high of 261.97 in the one-meter.
 
Next Up
Northeastern continues its tour of the NEC next weekend, traveling to LIU Brooklyn for a tri-meet with Wagner on Jan. 27th and 28th.
