UMass Triumphs Against Bryant

AMHERST, Mass. - In its first meet back since the holiday break, the UMass women's swimming and diving team used 12 first place finishes to defeat Bryant 186-106 on Saturday afternoon at Joseph's R. Rogers Pool. Ansley Baker, Maja Boric, Olga Egkorova, and Meriza Werenski all won multiple events during the day.
 
The meet also served as senior day for the swimmers with Werenski, being honored alongside classmates Sydney Connor, Jenna Diamond, Ivy Durepo, Katie Scordato, and Allie Vitous.
 
The Minutewomen will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Rogers Pool when Rhode Island visits. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
 
UMass also had five event sweeps taking the top three spots: 100 breast, 50 free, 1-meter dive, 100 free, and the 3-meter dive.

AMHERST, Mass. - Paced by 11 first-place finishes, the UMass men's swimming and diving team defeated Bryant 185-104 on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph R. Rogers Pool. Al Madden (100 breast, 200 breast) and Oliver Wyeth (200 back, 500 free) each led the way with multiple event wins.
 
Prior to the meet's start, UMass recognized its four-member senior class honoring Thomas Brennan, Alex Mesisca, Ben Sloan and Ian Wilson.
 
In addition to the 11 first-place finishes, the Minutemen also swept six events taking the top-three spots: 100 back, 200 fly, 50 free, 1-meter dive, 100 free, and the 3-meter dive.
 
The Minutemen will return to action on Jan. 20-21 at the Dartmouth Invitational in White River Junction, Vt.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team fell to the University of Massachusetts, 185-104, on Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

The Bulldogs were swimming in a dual meet for the first time in 2017 after returning from their annual training trip.

Freshman Robert Davis (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the way for the Bulldogs, winning the 1000 free and finishing third in the 200 free. Davis posted a winning time of 10:09.78 in the 1000 free and finished the 200 free in 1:50.81.  

Other top performers included Oliver French (Nashua, N.H.), Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam), Charlie Broe (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Tavish Boyle (Springfield, N.J.). French finished second in the 1000 free, Schulte finished second in the 100 breast and third in the 200 breast, Broe was third in the 200 back and Boyle finished second in the 200 breast.

The Bulldogs return to the pool on Jan. 28 when they visit Holy Cross.

Freshman Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) led the way for Bryant, winning the 200 back and finishing second in the 100 back. Scifo posted a winning time of 2:07.70 in the 200 back and posted a time of 59.95 in the 100 back.

Other top performers included Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.), Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) and Eliza Brant (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Kirk finished third in the 1000 free, Watson finished third in the 200 free nad Brant finished third in the 200 breast.

The Bulldogs return to the pool on Jan. 28 when they visit Holy Cross.
