Queens Cruises By Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone

HICKORY, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women’s swim team competed against Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone in a meet today, finding a win over both the Bears and the Saints. The Royals defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 215-45 while topping Limestone 207-49. Limestone would claim victory over LR, taking a 166-92 score over the Bears.
 
“Lenoir-Rhyne’s swimming programs were gracious hosts, said Head Coach Jeff Dugdale. “Many (Queens) swimmers had the chance to swim some off events and all did well. We now turn our sights towards conference.”
 
The day started with both Royals’ relays finding the top of the 200 yard medley relay as the group of Hannah Peiffer, Shelly Prayson, Alexandra Marshall, and McKenzie Stevens, respectively, reached the wall first clocking a 1:48.16. Linda Baron, Josefina Lorda-Taylor, Mary Claire Beaver, and Sarah Fountain, respectively, secured the second overall finish as the four claimed a time of 1:51.63.
  
Queens found back-to-back touches in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:45.33 coming from Kathryn Johnston, who claimed the first place finish. Sarah Reamy placed second, reaching the wall with just one-hundredth of a second off of Johnston with a time of 10:45.34.
 
Four Royals reached the top of the 200 yard freestyle as Stevens led the event, reaching the wall with a time of 1:56.91. In second place, Hannah Craig touched with a 2:00.22 followed by Shane Knight who secured a time of 2:03.55 for third. Fountain reached the wall with a 2:04.49 to round out the event and claim fourth.
 
Kristina Kosloski added a first place swim to the meet, claiming the 100 yard backstroke. She out-touched the pool by two seconds for a time of 1:01.16 and the win.
 
Another pair of Royals reached the top of an event as Prayson and Hayley Blaauw went 1-2, respectively, in the 100 yard breaststroke. Prayson’s touched with a 1:07:32 while Blaauw swam a 1:11.67.
 
Lorda-Taylor, Baron, and Tipton reached the wall back-to-back in the 200 yard butterfly, respectively. Lorda-Taylor claimed first with a 2:10.05 while Baron swam a 2:12.64. Tipton clocked a 2:16.41 to round out the top times.
 
With another strong performance, Beaver tallied a first place finish, touching the wall with a 25.35 in the 50 yard freestyle. She was followed by Prayson in second place with a 25.50 and Knight with a 25.85 for third.
 
Stevens claimed the next event with a 53.25 swim in the 100 yard freestyle. Baron and Kosloski followed in the next event, laying claim to the 200 yard backstroke, respectively. Baron swam a 2:12.05 while Kosloski swam a 2:14.86.
 
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Lorda-Taylor touched first with a time of 2:32.21 in the event. She was followed by Blaauw, who reached the wall with a time of 2:34.50.
 
Going 1-2-3, Johnston, Hannah Craig, and Reamy, respectively, placed atop the 500 yard freestyle. Johnston’s time of 5:19.81 led the pool as Craig swam a 5:20.58. Reamy clocked a 5:22.75.
 
The Royals followed claiming a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 yard butterfly with Stevens, Marshall, and Beaver touching in order. Steven’s time of 57.98 gave her the first place touch. Marshall swam a 58.34 for second while Beaver clocked a 59.54 for third.
 
Once more, the Royals secured the top three swims, this time in the 200 individual medley. Prayson led the group with a 2:10.87 followed by Tipton with a 2:18.17. Olivia Gutknecht reached the wall with a 2:22.83.
 
Queens ended the day with two back-to-back 400 yard relay swims. The team of Baron, Beaver, Lorda-Taylor, and Knight, respectively, led the event with a time of 3:38.02. Craig, Megan Delgado, Fountain, and Tipton, respectively, touched second with a time of 3:48.44.
 
Queens will focus on their next meet against the University of South Carolina, East Carolina, UNC-Wilmington and Wingate in Columbia, S.C. The competition is scheduled for January 27th at 4 p.m.

HICKORY, N.C.-  The Queens University of Charlotte men’s swim team traveled to Lenoir-Rhyne today to compete against the Bears and Limestone College. The Royals defeated both Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone in the meet finding a 218-43 score against the host school, LR. Queens topped the Saints 171-90 to round out their weekend. Limestone would defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 199-62.

The meet started as the men’s 200 medley relay team of Zach Bunner, Rostyslav Fedyna, Paul Pijulet, and Bradford Hancock, respectively, placed top in the swim with a time of 1:33.13, claiming the event with a three second gap.
 
Jackson Kojima led the 1000 yard freestyle as he reached the wall with a time of 10:07.57. Ian Shackley followed close behind to make it a Royals’ event, clocking a time of 10:11.33.
 
Finding the first place swim with an NCAA “B’” standard time, Marius Kusch put a five second gap between himself and the competition as he touched with a 1:39.60 during the 200 yard freestyle.
 
Pijulet and Bunner, respectively, went 1-2 in the 100 yard backstroke. Pijulet’s first place swim came with a time of 51.36 while Bunner clocked a 53.17 for second.
 
Fedyna found an individual first place swim earning the top swim in the 100 yard breaststroke. He reached the wall with a time of 56.71 for first.
 
With another 1-2 finish, Hector Tricas and Jasper Jurman led the 200 yard butterfly. Tricas secured the first place touch, clocking a 1:57.00. Jurman swam a 2:00.41 to place second.
 
Pijulet added the 50 yard freestyle to his night, securing the event with a time of 21.39. Kusch tabbed the next event, taking the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 46.46.
 
Nicholas Arakelian led the 200 yard breaststroke, clocking a 2:07.19 for over a three second gap.
 
Kusch and Inigo Alarcia went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley, respectively, as Kusch found the wall with a time of 1:54.30. Alarcia swam a 1:57.22 to reach the wall second in the event.
The meet ended with the Queens touching first in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Kusch, Pijulet, Arakelian and Bryant Burney, respectively, reaching the wall with a 3:08.47 for the top performance.
 
Queens will focus on their next meet against the University of South Carolina, East Carolina, UNC-Wilmington and Wingate in Columbia, S.C. The competition is scheduled for January 27th at 4 p.m.
