NJIT, Drexel, Howard Compete on Sunday

NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's swimming and diving team competed in a dual meet with Drexel and Howard on Sunday afternoon at the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The Highlanders (5-6) defeated the Bisons (3-5) 177-82 and fell to the Dragons (6-1) 137-120.

Sophomore Edward Parks paced NJIT with two wins in the 100 fly (52.72) and the 50 fly (23.79).

Scott Quirie also recorded some good swims, placing first in the 100 back, and second in the 50 back and 100 IM.

In the 200 meter relay, NJIT placed second with a time of 1:39.72 with the help of Quirie, Justin Sherrill, Parks and Jack Matusiak.

Junior transfer Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos came in second in both the 500 free (4:57.38) and the 1000 free (9:57.26). Maxim Tillman came in after Montarroyos in the 500 finishing in 4:59.14.

In the 50 breast, freshman Sherrill swam in 29.22 good for second and Alex Danielson came in shortly after for third.

Sophomore Danielson also notched second in the 100 breast, out touching the third place finisher from Drexel by .10 of a second.
Freshman Haydn Pak placed third in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.02, and senior Matusiak grabbed himself third place finishing in the 50 free swimming in 22.86.

The Highlanders will travel to Monmouth on January 28th to face the Hawks in a 1pm meet in West Long Branch, NJ.
