Fresno State Press Release

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State women's swim team traveled to Southern California for a dual meet against the University of San Diego. The Bulldogs defeated the Toreros 136-127, to improve to 4-3 on the season.

The Bulldogs closed out the close meet without receiving any points from the diving events due to their divers competing at UCLA this weekend.

"We swam really well today," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "Our team hasn't competed in over a month. Our training over the break really helped us come back strong. Ugne (Mazutaityte) did a really nice job today in all of her events. Emily Niles stepped up having a great meet and that really helped us out today."

Fresno State finished strong in the first event of the meet, taking first, second and third place in the 100 Backstroke. Sophomore Ugne Mazutaityte finished with a time of 56.98, senior Kali Conlon followed with a time of 1:00.40 and junior Ally Short finished third with a time of 1:01.78.

Mazutaityte recorded a season-best time of 1:53.48 in the 200 Freestyle, finishing third for the Bulldogs.

In the 100 Breaststroke, freshman Manuela Mendolicchio took first place (1:05.86). Mendolicchio remains undefeated in this event in dual meets.

Freshman Kimberly Harbert finished second in the 100 Butterfly (58.32), followed by senior Esme Gullick in third (58.32).

As for the 1000 Freestyle, freshman Emily Niles took first place with a time of 10:29.95.

Conlon led the Buldogs in the 50 Freestyle with a second place finish (24.80), followed by fellow senior Tarryn Rennie in third with a time of 25.26.

Gullick finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.26.

The Bulldogs swept the top three times in the 200 Backstroke. Ugne Mazutaityte finished first (2:05.56), followed by Gullick (2:07.46) and sophomore Emma Monnich (2:13.44).

Mendolicchio stayed perfect in breaststroke events finishing first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:20.46).

The Fresno State 200 Freestyle Relay team of Hannah Jarvis, Katelin Britton, Short and Conlon finished second with a time of 1:38.55.

Harbert took second place in the 200 Butterfly (2:08.26) and Gabbie Libang finished right behind her in third (2:12.07).

"We had a great time today, but have a big meet tomorrow that we need to focus on and prepare for against two conference opponents," Fleck said.

The Bulldogs will face San Diego State and New Mexico in a tri-meet tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT.
