Westminster Triumphs Over Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Westminster College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams swept Rollins College in Florida on Saturday.
 
The Titan men’s team won 181-81, while the Titan women’s team won 144-117.
 
For the men’s team (4-1), sophomore David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) was part of two winning relays (200 freestyle/1:27.08 and 200 medley/1:40.11) and won two individual events (50 backstroke/26.00 and 100 backstroke/54.93). Completing the 200 medley relay were senior Sam Angelo (Warren, OH / Warren G. Harding), sophomore Clay Murray (St. Thomas, PA / James Buchanan), and freshman Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley). Murray, sophomore Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield), and junior Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) completed the 200 freestyle quartet. Stahara also placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:48.41) and the 100 freestyle (49.38). Kwalick (100 IM/56.92) and Spencer (50 freestyle/22.51) picked up individual victories. Junior Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin) touched first in the 100 butterfly (54.61) and the 50 butterfly (24.47).
 
For the women’s team (4-2), first-year Abby Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) won two individual events (100 breaststroke/1:10.38, 100 IM/1:03.55) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:55.21); completing the relay were first-year Alyssa Hampton (Anchorage, AK / AJ Dimond), junior Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park), and sophomore Carolyn Novak (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair). First-year Nicole Stengel (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton) also won a pair of individual events and was part of a winning relay, as she touched first in the 50 freestyle (26.60) and the 50 butterfly (28.43), and was the second leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:46.05). Hampton, senior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston), and Novak completed the relay. Hampton also won the 50 backstroke (30.29), while Tillie placed first in the 100 freestyle (59.86).
 
Westminster is back in the pool on Saturday, January 14 at Carnegie Mellon University starting at 1 p.m.
