Grove City Earns Wins Against Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Six Wolverines took part in multiple victories on the day and the Grove City College women's swimming and diving team posted the meet's top time in all but one swimming event as the Wolverines cruised to a 153-120 victory over Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon inside the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

Sophomore Megan Crutcher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and freshman Anne Shirley Dassow (Lookout Mountain, Tenn./Chattanooga Christian) were both triple winners for the Wolverines (5-4) while both freshman Brittany Byer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and senior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) earned two victories and posted a third top time in exhibition after Grove City had claimed the meet victory. Senior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Christian) posted a pair of top times, as did freshman Danielle Ledyard (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield).

Byer, Crutcher, Dassow and Gallant opened the meet with a winning time of 1:54.45 in the 200 medley relay as part of a 1-2 Grove City finish. Crutcher would sweep the breaststroke events, claiming the 50 breast in 32.10 before finishing on top in the 100 breast (1:09.54). Dassow won both the 100 fly (1:01.40) and the 100 back (1:04.64) while Byer took the 50 back (29.66) and Gallant the 50 free (24.78). Byer, Gallant, Jank and Ledyard also posted the meet's top time in the 200 free relay (1:41.99) in exhibition.

Jank was the winner in the 200 free (2:02.44) while fellow senior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy) won the 1650 in 19:46.09. Leona Bently (Powell, Ohio/Powell) earned Grove City's remaining outright win in the 500 free (5:40.17) while Ledyard finished first in the 50 fly (27.73) and freshman Kaylyn Froebel (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) was first in the 400 IM (5:01.36) in exhibition.

Senior Grace Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) provided the remaining first-place finish for Grove City, leading the Wolverine divers with a score of 199.40 on the 3-meter board in exhibition.

Sophomore Jillian Breckenridge (Dunellen, N.J./Dunellen) took second in both the 1650 (19:57.37) and the 400 IM (5:15.01, exh.) while Bently was second in the 200 (2:08.03). Junior Mary Robison (Williamsburg, Va./Homeschooled) was the runner-up to Dassow in the 100 fly (1:03.82), and Byer (56.02) edged Jank (56.03) for second in the 100 free. Froebel took second to Crutcher in the 100 breast (1:10.59) while freshman Kimmi Wendelschaefer (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) was second to Bently in the 500 (5:47.07).

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore Dane Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) was a triple-winner and the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team posted the meet's fastest time in all but one swimming event as the Wolverines rolled to a 147-110 victory over Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon inside the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

Freshman Ben Slate (Pfafftown, N.C./Homeschooled), senior Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) and sophomore Rhys Dickhudt (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian) all took part in two Wolverine victories while junior Brett Gwynn (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Josh Weinland (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) posted multiple top times, including times in exhibition after Grove City (5-4) had already clinched the meet victory.

Hoselton, Slate, Kim and Kisak opened the meet with a victorious time of 1:38.64 as part of a 1-2 finish with the Wolverine "B" relay in the 200 medley relay. Hoselton would later win both the 50 back (24.63) and the 100 back (53.97) for the Wolverines while Slate claimed the 50 breast (27.92) and Kim won the 100 fly (55.70). Dickhudt won both the 100 free (50.13) and the 200 free (1:49.61), and Gwynn won the 50 free (22.34) before posting the top time in the 50 fly (23.74) in exhibition.

Weinland also won the 100 breast (1:03.66) before teaming with Gwynn, senior Josiah Vehrs (Fresno, Calif./Homeschooled) and freshman Josh Wakefield (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) for the meet's top time in the 200 free relay (1:30.08) to close the meet. Freshman Ash Pietroboni (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) earned the remaining win on the day for the Wolverines, claiming the win in the 1650 by more than 30 seconds with a time of 18:02.21, while senior Randon Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) posted the top time in the 500 (5:11.03) in exhibition.

Junior Sam Archibald (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) led the Wolverine divers by posting the meet's second-best score on both the 1-meter (112.00) and 3-meter (131.35) boards. Junior Andrew Kisak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:50.85) while Vehrs added a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 breast (28.85) and the 100 breast (1:05.59). Slate posted a runner-up time in the 500 free (5:15.91) in exhibition while Dickhudt did the same in the 50 fly (24.68) and sophomore Matt Belack (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) in the 400 IM (5:10.88).

The Washington & Jefferson men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Grove City on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet.

Top Performers: The women were led by Chloe Magyari (Columbus, Ohio / Upper Arlington) who won the 100 freestyle (55.54) and 50 butterfly (28.20) and also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:43.54) behind Rachel Nye (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg), Maris Leonard (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Greensburg-Salem) and Jillian McElhaney (Butler, Pa. / Butler Area). Magyari also placed second in the 50 freestyle (25.61). On the men's side, Nicholas Willison (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) swam the first leg for the victorious 200 freestyle relay (1:33.14) ahead of Owen Hanna (Reading, Pa. / Governor Mifflin), Zach Lauer (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) and Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) while also placing second in the 50 freestyle (22.46) and the 100 backstroke (55.69).

The Rest: Claire Atherton (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) placed first in the 400 individual medley (5:28.21) while McElhaney recorded second-place finishes in the 50 (30.08) and 100 backstroke (1:06.38). Nye and Haley Georgetti (Washington, Pa. / Linsly) both recorded one second-place finish apiece, with Nye getting second in the 50 butterfly (28.88) and Georgetti in the 50 breaststroke (35.68). Kaitlyn Pawcio (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) picked up a pair of wins in the diving events with a score of 225.60 in the one-meter and a score of 187.40 in the three-meter while Haley Ashner (Sewickley, Pa. / Quaker Valley) came in just behind Pawcio in the one-meter dive (220.85). For the men, Matt Noel (Sewickley, Pa. / Quaker Valley) was victorious in the 50 butterfly while Brannon Boyd (Dover, Pa. / Home-schooled) finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:38.52) and Jeremy Glasner (Boyertown, Pa. / Boyertown Area) won the 400 individual medley (4:37.12). Joshua Emde (Ballwin, Mo. / Parkway West) was the runner-up to Boyd in the 500 freestyle (5:38.52) while Hanna finished second in the 100 freestyle (51.22), Geister placed second in the 100 butterfly (57.15), Lauer finished second in the 50 backstroke (26.32) and Tyler Willison (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) placed second in the 1650 freestyle (18:38.18). For the men's divers, Jacob Beckwith (Kent, Ohio / Theodore Roosevelt) placed first in the one- (152.20) and three-meter dives (137.30).
