Stanford continued to shine on day two of the 2017 Pac-12 Women’s Swimming and Men’s and Women’s Diving Championships. Highlighted by freshman Katie Ledecky’s American record breaking 4:25.15 in the 500-freestyle, the Cardinal captured four individual events and the 200 freestyle relay Thursday. In men’s diving USC’s Dashiell Enos defended his 1-meter title with a 428.35 followed by teammate Henry Fusaro in second with a 408.15.
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES:
Women’s 1-meter
• 2016 Olympian and Stanford senior Kassidy Cook scored a 338.35 to capture her first Pac-12 title in the women’s 1-meter.
• UCLA’s Maria Polyakova (335.75) and USC’s Naomi Gowlett (328.15) rounded out the top three.
500 free Katie Ledecky
• Stanford freshman Katie Ledecky won her first individual Pac-12 swimming title in record fashion, touching with a 4:25.15 breaking her own American Record set earlier in November of 2016.
• Stanford freshman Katie Drabot followed with a 4:35.69, good for the third fastest time in Stanford history behind Ledecky and Hall of Fame swimmer Janet Evans.
• Golden Bear Katie McLaughlin finished with a 4:36.04 for the third fastest time in California history.
200 Individual Medley
• Stanford’s Ella Easton defended her own Pac-12 title in the 200 IM, finishing with a 1:52.34.
• Olympic silver medalist Kathleen Baker of California placed second with a 1:52.74.
• Both times put Easton and Baker first and second in the country respectively.
• USC’s Louise Hansson placed third with a 1:53.72.
• Washington State’s Addisyn Bush broke her own the school record with a 1:59.34.
50 free
• In a field featuring five Olympians, 2016 Olympic gold medalist Simone Manuel edged Egyptian OlympianFarida Osman, 21.29 to 21.49 to take the Pac-12 title and a new Championship record.
• Fellow Rio Olympian Abbey Weitzeil of California rounded out the podium with a 21.50.
Men’s 3-meter
• USC’s Dashiell Enos defended his Pac-12 three meter title, scoring a 428.35 with teammate Henry Fusaroin second with a 408.15.
• ASU’s Heikki Makikallio placed third with a 372.70.
400 freestyle relay
• The Stanford team of Simone Manuel, Lia Neal, Janet Hu, and Ally Howe capped a perfect night for the Cardinal going a 1:26.44.
• California finished close behind with a 1:26.49. Arizona took third with a 1:27.95
