West Chester Sweeps PSAC Championships

The West Chester Rams completed the sweep of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center Sunday evening in York, Pa.
 
WCU’s men claimed their 19th consecutive team title while the women notched their 11th in a row.
 
On the women’s side, freshman Georgia Wright was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer after claiming six victories in the championship; including a record-setting mark in the 1650 free in 16:37.21 and a win in the women’s 200 backstroke (2:00.17) on Sunday. Wright won the 200 back, 1000 free, 500 free and was a leg in the 400 medley relay and 800 free relay.
 
On the men’s side, two-time PSAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year Victor Polyakov claimed his second consecutive Most Outstanding Swimmer award after claiming five victories over the four-day event; including a win in the men’s 100 free with a sparkling time of 44.45. The senior finished the day off with a second-place finish as a part of the men’s 400 freestyle relay.
 
WCU’s Trey Shackleton won cruised to a win in men’s 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:50.35. Teammate Geoff Boodey earned second (16:02.42) while Bloomsburg freshman Doug Boehme (16:10.48) was third.
 
Clarion junior Ben Spencer impressed when he set a PSAC record in the men’s 200 backstroke, after only needing 1:49.08 to complete the race.
 
Bloomsburg’s quartet of Sam Feiser, Josh Grzech, Kyle Dix and Eric Usbeck produced a PSAC record in the men’s 400 freestyle relay after turning in a time of 2:59.28.
 
WCU senior Mike Oliver set a meet record in the men’s 200 breaststroke after turning in a time of 1:57.50.
 
WCU’s women earned the win in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:28.27.
 
California senior Jade Arganbright ended her PSAC career in style when she claimed the win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.99.
 
WCU freshman Meghan Keithly won the 100 free in 51.41.
 
The NCAA DII Swimming Championships take place March 8-11 in Birmingham, Ala.
