La Crosse Women, Stevens Point Keep Winning Streaks Intact, Win Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Titles

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse collected its sixth consecutive title at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 18.
 
The Eagles won the league crown for the 17th time in program history with 864 points to exceed the second-place total of 784.50 points by UW-Eau Claire. UW-Whitewater placed third with 731 points, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 404 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 330.50.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Kayley Alioto won the one-meter diving title with a score of 452.00 and was named the Diver of the Meet. The Eagles’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Victoria Campbell, Maddie Volk, Katelyn De Starkey and Anna Landgraf had a first-place time of 3:29.48.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Samantha Senczyszyn won the 100-yard freestyle with a WIAC meet record time of 50.18. She was selected the Swimmer of the Meet for the second consecutive year. Senczyszyn is one of three individuals in league history to receive the honor multiple times, joining UW-La Crosse’s Carlene Empanger (2004 and 2006) and Chelsea Hoff (2008, 2009 and 2010).
 
The Blugolds’ Jessica Short posted a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke for the second straight season with a time of 2:04.11. Sari Mailey won the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:47.79 and Sara Hagen claimed the 200-yard breaststroke with a performance of 2:21.15.
 
UW-Whitewater’s Melanie Carlson was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.94, while Grace Devine received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Charlie King was chosen the Coach of the Year for the third time in his career.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point posted its 18th straight first-place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 18
 
The Pointers earned the 21st championship in program history with 971.50 points. UW-Eau Claire placed second with 720.50 points, UW-Whitewater third with 656, UW-La Crosse fourth with 539 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 198.
 
UW-Stevens Point captured four individual titles and one relay crown during the third day of competition. Jacob Aegerter was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly with a conference meet record time of 1:49.90. He was also a member of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team that had a time of 3:01.74. Aegerter was joined on the squad by Jack Englehardt, Grant Moser and Sam Jekel.
 
Nate Somers won the 1,650-yard freestyle for the second straight year with a time of 15:55.85, while Ethan Bott successfully defended his title in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.86. Owen Gluck claimed the three-meter diving crown with a score of 479.90 and was named the Diver of the Meet. He is the first individual in program history to win the WIAC honor.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Collin Miller was named the Swimmer of the Meet and posted a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.15. He is the second individual in Blugold archives to receive the distinction, joining Alex Card (2013 and 2014).
 
Dayton Miller emerged with the 200-yard breaststroke title after producing a time of 2:04.40.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Ryan Young received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award, while UW-Stevens Point’s Al Boelk was chosen the Coach of the Year. Boelk received the honor for the second straight season and 12th time in his career.
