Mary Washington Extends Leads at Capital Athletic Conference Champs

The Mary Washington swimming teams extended their leads on the rest of the CAC with five wins from each gender in Saturday's final at the St. Mary's Aquatics Center. 

Following UMW in the men's standings after day two are York in second with 373 points, Salisbury (309), Marymount (260), St. Mary's (259), and Frostburg State (234). 

For the women, York is in second with 355 points followed by St. Mary's (264), Marymount (254.5), Salisbury (253), and Frostburg State (234). 

On the men's side, Dallas Tarkenton posted his second victory of the 2017 championships for UMW, Austin Farrar and Jake Schroth grabbed their first individual wins of the meet, and the Eagles took top honors in the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. 

Tarkenton raced to an NCAA 'B' cut time of 49.00 in the 100 butterfly, while Farrar also posted a 'B' cut mark in the 400 IM at 4:05.03. Schroth won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.51. 

In the relays, the 200 medley squad of Carsen Mumford, Mark Dye, Tarkenton, and Garrett Ross touched first in 1:33.70, while the 800 freestyle team of Farrar, Kenyon Huber-Wilker, Dylan Gore, and Tyler Gimple took gold in 6:56.53. 

Other individual titles on the men's side went to Frostburg State's Christian March and York's Morgan Schreiber. March, who won the 50 freestyle on Friday, secured gold in the 100 breaststorke in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 56.53. Schreiber won the 100 backstroke for the second straight year at 50.95. 

UMW's Anna Corley headlined the women's efforts, posting a championship meet record in the 400 IM at 4:28.74 for her second individual victory of the championships. Corley was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay for the Eagles along with Maddy Rymer, Sara Dye, and Megan Murphy. 

The Eagles also won the 800 freestyle relay as Lauren Wood, Michaela Miller, Shannon Coryell, and Julia Geskey finished in 7:50.84. Other UMW victories came from Dye in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.65) and Geskey in the 100 backstroke (58.09). 

After winning the 50 freestyle on Friday night, Frostburg State's Macey Nitchie grabbed her second gold of the weekend with a victory in the 200 freestyle at 1:52.80, edging out York's Maddy Mann (1:52.82) by just .02. Both Nitchie and Mann's times were NCAA 'B' cuts. 

Marymount's Morgan Alston secured the other individual title of the night in the 100 butterfly, touching in 57.71. 

The third and final day of the championship meet begins with the prelims at 10 a.m., with the finals set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
