UMBC Men, FGCU Women Still Atop CCSA Championships

The UMBC men's swimming and diving team is in first place with 1,1001 points after the third day of the 2017 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championship in Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Gardner-Webb and Incarnate Word both take second place with 827 points each. Florida Atlantic in is fourth with 763 points, Old Dominion is in fifth with 744 points and New Jersey Institute of Technology is in sixth with 397 points. Howard is in seventh with 273 points and Virginia Military Institute finished the day in eighth place with 200 points.

Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz from Incarnate Word tabbed first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:52.90. UMBC's Nikola Trajkovic placed second with a time of 3:53.68, while teammate finished third with a time of 3:55.57. In the 100 fly, Filip Svedberg from Old Dominion finished first with a time of 47.64, followed by Philip Adejumo from UMBC who finished in 48.53 for second place. John Nolte from Florida Atlantic rounded out the top three with a time of 48.78.

In the 200 free, UMBC's Gregor Spoerlein finished first with a time of 1:37.32. Incarnate Word's Kyrylo Shvets finished second with a time of 1:37.37, while teammate Beau Fusilier took third with a time of 1:38.34. In the 100 breaststroke, Old Dominion's Jacob Zeidler took first with a time of 54.48, closely followed by Jordan Mintz from Gardner-Webb who finished second with a time of 57.74. Andrey Chechelnyyskyi from Incarnate Word rounded out the top three with a time of 55.11.

In the 100 backstroke, Connor Bos claimed first with a time of 47.61, followed by UMBC's Alexander Gliese who finished 47.90. John Brennock from Florida Atlantic finished third with a time of 48.67. In the 400 medley relay, Old Dominion took first with a time of 3:14.48, UMBC took second with a time of 3:16.28, and Florida Atlantic took third with a time of 3:20.07.

The CCSA Championship will continue on Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m., starting with the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries. The event finals for day four will start at 6:00 p.m.

The Florida Gulf Coast women's swimming and diving team is in first place with 1120.5 points after the third day of the 2017 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championship in Gabrielsen Natatorium on the University of Georgia's campus.

Liberty is in second with 935 points, Georgia Southern is in third with 640.5 points, and Gardner-Webb is in fourth with 600 points. Incarnate Word sits in fifth place with 582.5 points, Campbell is in sixth place with 398.5 points, and UNC Asheville is in seventh with 396 points. North Florida comes in at eighth place with 273 points, Howard sits in ninth place with 184 points, and Virginia Military Institute finished the day in tenth place with 74 points.

In the 400 IM, London Schumacher from Gardner-Webb finished first with a time of 4:19.94, followed by Florida Gulf Coast's Barbara Caraballo who finished second with a time of 4:20.72. Incarnate Word's Alona Kyselova rounded out the top three with a time of 4:20.87. In the 200 fly, Christina Kaas Elmgreen from FGCU took first with a time of 53.53, while Liberty's Alicia Finnigan took second with a time of 53.74. Florida Gulf Coast's Fanny Teijonsalo finished third with a of 53.97.

Hannah Burdge from Florida Gulf Coast clocked in a time of 1:48.37 in the 200 free for first place. Teammate Linda Shaw took second with a time of 1:48.70, while Liberty's Hannah Baker finished third with a time of 1:49.37. In the 100 breaststroke, FGCU's Sommer Harris and Evita Leter took first and third with times of 1:01.40 and 1:01.78, respectively. Prudence Rooker from Liberty took second with a time of 1:01.61.

In the 100 backstroke, Brittany Weiss from Liberty tabbed first with a time of 53.42, while Florida Gulf Coast's Doris Eichhorn finished second with a time of 53.65. Sandra Wilk also from Florida Gulf Coast finished third with a time of 54.09. Florida Gulf Coast took first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:38.16, Liberty took second with a time of 3:39.75, and Gardner-Webb took third with a time of 3:45.20.

Ashley Wright from Florida Gulf Coast scored a 296.60 in the 1-meter dive to claim first. Katelynn Shilling from Incarnate Word and teammate Kimberly Foster finished second and third with scores of 277.25 and 266.75, respectively.

The CCSA Championship will continue on Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m., starting with the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries. The event finals for day four will start at 6:00 p.m.
