University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the five-time defending champion, still holds the advantage following the second day of competition at the 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 17.
The Eagles have totaled 552.50 points through 13 events, while UW-Eau Claire is second with 511, UW-Whitewater third with 499.50, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 253 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 218.
UW-La Crosse’s Anna Landgraf was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.27 and a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that posted a time of 7:44.46. She was joined by Victoria Campbell, Courtney Boak and Jaime Kloehn.
UW-Eau Claire collected three individual titles and one relay crown during the second day of events. Samantha Senczyszyn established a WIAC championship record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:23.71. Jessica Short won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.93, while Sara Hagen was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.10.
Senczyszyn, Short and Hagen also contributed to the triumphant 200-yard medley relay, along with Brittany Farr. The foursome had a time of 1:43.84.
UW-Whitewater’s Michaela Matthys claimed the 100-yard butterfly for the third consecutive season with a conference meet record time of 55.80 that she established in the prelims.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Rachel Chatwin; UW-La Crosse’s Katelyn De Starkey; UW-Oshkosh’s Elizabeth Kelly; UW-Stevens Point’s Bree Parent; and UW-Whitewater’s Margaret Lotzer.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the 17-time defending championship, continues to lead following the second day of competition at the 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 17.
The Pointers have compiled 611.50 points through the first 13 events. UW-Eau Claire is second with 481.50 points, UW-Whitewater third with 436, UW-La Crosse fourth with 351 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 142.
UW-Stevens Point secured four individual titles and two relay crowns during the second day of events. Sam Jekel claimed the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly with times of 49.80 and 48.79, respectively. He also won the 100-yard butterfly at the 2015 championship. Jekel helped the 200-yard medley relay team post a first-place time of 1:30.49. He was joined by Jack Englehardt, Brandon Richardson and Reilly Donnellan.
Garrett Richetto was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.77, while Owen Gluck shared the one-meter diving title with UW-Eau Claire’s Dylan Gluman after both individuals posted a score of 480.70. It is the first time in league history that the one-meter diving crown has been split. Richetto was also a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that set a WIAC meet record with a time of 6:46.77. He was joined by Grant Moser, Jacob Aegerter and Nate Somers.
UW-Eau Claire also received first-place performances from Collin Miller and Dayton Miller in the 100-yard breaststroke and 55.24, respectively. Collin’s time established a conference meet record.
