West Chester Men, Women Lead After Day 1 of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Champs

A pair of conference swimming records fell on the opening day of the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center Thursday evening in York, Pa.
 
West Chester freshman Georgia Wright broke teammate Theresa Hayward’s (3/9/2016) conference record in the women’s 1000 freestyle after posting a time of 9:54.86. The freshman bested the competition by 15 seconds while WCU and Bloomsburg were responsible for seven of the top eight spots in the event.
 
Bloomsburg sophomore Sam Feiser set the PSAC mark in the men’s 50 freestyle with a sparkling time of 19.98. The record was previously held by current teammate and senior Eric Usbeck (12/2/2016).
 
WCU’s Victor Polyakov continued his storied career after claiming the top spot in the men’s 1000 freestyle in a time of 9:17.08. WCU claimed the top three spots in the event.
 
Shippensburg sophomore Stephanie O’Toole grabbed gold in the women’s 200-yard IM after posting a time of 2:03.60. WCU’s Megan Burns (2:06.06) and Edinboro’s Yana Miletska (2:06.68) finished second and third, respectively.
 
WCU junior Thomas McCormick set a pool record in the men’s 200 IM with a time of 1:48.49. Teammate Michael Oliver finished second (1:49.21) while Clarion junior Ben Spencer was good for third (1:50.08).
 
Another pool record fell after WCU freshman Meghan Keithly completed the women’s 50 freestyle in 23.46 seconds. Fellow Ram Mikaela Lantz claimed second (23.50) while California’s Jade Arganbright earned third (23.84).
 
WCU won the women’s 200 medley relay in 1:44.62 while Edinboro (1:44.75) and Shippensburg (1:47.42) rounded out the top three.
 
Bloomsburg’s men garnered the win in the 200 medley relay in the evening’s last event while WCU and IUP were second and third.
 
On the women’s side, West Chester holds a healthy lead with 414 points while Bloomsburg sits second with 201 and Edinboro is third with 185.
 
West Chester’s men lead the pack with 224 points while BU is second with 289 and Clarion is third with 79.
