Texas A&M Men, Women Lead After Day 1 of SEC Champs; Caeleb Dressel Uncorks 17.90 Split

The Texas A&M men and women lead the 2017 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships following the opening day of the event at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.

In the finals of the men's 1-meter springboard, Liam Stone of Tennessee set the SEC and pool records with the top score of 468.30. Juan Celaya-Hernandez of LSU was a close second with a score of 467.05. Tyler Henschel of Texas A&M placed third with a score of 420.65.

Georgia set a pool record in the women's 200 medley relay, as Olivia Smoliga, Emily Cameron, Chelsea Britt and Chantal Van Landeghem finished in first place with a time of 1:35.28. Texas A&M took second place with a time of 1:35.33, and Tennessee earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:35.45.

Florida set the SEC meet record in the men's 200 medley relay as Jack Blyzinskyj, Chandler Bray, Jan Switkowski and Caeleb Dressel finished with a winning time of 1:23.44. Alabama came in second (1:23.52), while Texas A&M took third place (1:23.91).

Julia Vincent of South Carolina took the top spot in the women's 3-meter springboard and set the pool record with a final score of 400.50. Lizzie Cui of LSU claimed second place with a score of 391.40, and Madison Hudkins of Texas A&M placed third with a score of 365.05.

The quartet of Sarah Gibson, Sydney Pickrem, Katie Portz and Claire Rasmus from Texas A&M posted the fastest time in the women's 800 free relay at 6:57.90. Kentucky finished second (6:59.33), and Georgia came in third (7:00.44).

The foursome of Khader Baqlah, Maxime Rooney, Mitch D'Arrigo and Mark Szaranek from Florida set the SEC record in the men's 800 free relay with a final time of 6:12.18. Auburn earned second place with a time of 6:16.78, and Georgia finished third in a time of 6:17.17.

Day two of the 2017 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships begins on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. ET with the prelims for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and women's 1-meter, followed by the finals of those along with the 200 free relay starting at 6 p.m. ET. Both sessions can be viewed on SEC Network+.
