Richards Named Diving Coach at Mount St. Mary's

Mount St. Mary's University swimming & diving Head Coach Neil Yost has announced the addition of Karli Richards to the coaching staff. Richards, a former diver at Notre Dame and head diving coach at the University of Pennsylvania, rounds out the staff for the 2016-17 season.

"We're really excited to bring Karli on board as we build and develop our diving program here at the Mount. Karli brings an exceptional amount of knowledge and great pedigree, and our divers are eager to learn from such an accomplished athlete," said Yost.

Richards spent four seasons at Notre Dame where she trained under former Chinese Olympic diver, Cai Ming Xie. She was a three-time NCAA zone qualifier during her time with the Fighting Irish, and won the team's Most Improved Athlete Award following her junior season. Richards rounded out her collegiate career at Notre Dame by earning the Big East Conference Scholar-Athlete Award in 2001.

Coming out of high school, Richards was tabbed an All-American following her senior season, wrapping up a career that included a gold at the PIAA State District meet as a freshman and first-place performances at the Private School Eastern Championship meets in both 1996 and 1997.

Following a standout collegiate career, Richards spent the 2001-02 season as the head diving coach at the University of Pennsylvania while pursuing her medical degree. She is currently a licensed foot and ankle surgeon at Richards Orthopedic Center & Sports Medicine in Chambersburg, Pa.
