South Dakota State Wins In-State Battle With South Dakota

South Dakota State set several records in a sweep against rival South Dakota.

The South Dakota State men's swimming and diving team defeats in-state rival 169-131, while breaking school and pool record.
 
Geoffrey Longhurst broke the school and pool record in the 100 individual medley with a time of 54.25.
 
The team of Chase Petersen, Wyatt Rumrill, Tony Mikrut and Maclaine Johnson won the 200 medley relay in 1:35.93. Rumrill also won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:09.61, staying undefeated in the event.
 
In the 1,000 freestyle, Chris Angerhofer and Christian Offenhauser finished one, two in 9:52.50 and 9:53.43, respectively. Offenhauser also won the 500 freestyle in 4:46.02 first his first career-win as a Jackrabbit.
 
Donovan Taylor placed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.44, while Spencer Sathre followed behind in 1:59.10.
 
Matthew Carpenter and Chase Peterson also finished first and second the 200 backstroke with times of 1:57.54 and 1:59.40, respectively.
 
Mikrut claimed a victory in the 100 butterfly in 52.75.
 
In diving, Joey Weber finished first in the 1-meter diving with a score of 286.43. Noah Batenhorst finished second in the 3-meter diving with a score of 280.73.

The South Dakota State women's swimming and Diving team broke school and pool records en route to a 155-145 victory over in-state rival South Dakota.
 
Kristin Erf broke the 100 breaststroke pool record with a time of 1:04.12. The junior also broke the school and pool record in the 100 individual medley in 59.68.
 
The team of Samantha Prasher, Erf, Alexandra Spinner and Ashley Theobald won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.57.
 
Freshman Linda Lidstrom captured a first place finish in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:56.44.
 
Theobald and Gabby Langerud went one, two in the 50 freestyle with times of 24.10 and 24.94, respectively.
 
Junior Cassie Hendricks was also victorious with a first place finish in the 100 backstroke in 58.74.
 
In diving, Emily Moore finished second in the 1- and 3-meter dives with scores of 238.88 and 235.95, respectively.

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The South Dakota swimming and diving teams won 15 events, but the Coyote women came up just short and lost to South Dakota State 155-145 while the men lost 169-131 Saturday night at the Stanley J. Marshall Center. The meet results were tallied using dual meet scoring with the winner of each event earning nine points, the runner-up earning four, third-place earning three, fourth earning two and fifth earning one.
 
The women were led by senior freestyler Sam Schutt and senior diver Greysen Hertting who won three and two events, respectively.
 
Schutt won 100-yard free with a time of 52.90 seconds and the 500-yard free with 5:10.61. She teamed with sophomore Theresa Godlewski, sophomore Taylor Kidd and freshman Charlton Mechling  to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:35.27.
 
Hertting won both diving events as she scored 248.47 on the one-meter and 309.53 on the three-meter.
 
Sophomore Hannah Gupton, freshman Sabrina Sabadeanu and Mechling all won individual events. Gupton touched in with 58.56 to win the 100-yard fly, Sabadeanu won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.51 and Mechling won the 200-yard freestyle event with 1:55.72
 
Coyote junior Eric Erlenmeyer led the men and won two individual events and one team event. He won the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free with times of 21.35 and 48.39, respectively.  He combined with sophomore Jared Thorson, freshman Nathan Spencer and sophomore Chris Pospisil to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:10.76.
 
Spencer, senior Jake Knowles and freshman Evan Marsh all won individual events. Spencer won the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.84, Knowles won the 100-yard breast with 58.51 and Marsh claimed the 100-yard back with a time of 53.63.
 
Freshman diver Isaac Morris won the three-meter dive with a score of 308.48 and placed second on the one-meter dive with 282.90.
