Nova Southeastern Closes Out Lynn

Nova Southeastern claimed a victory against Lynn's women's team today in Florida.

FORT LAUDERDALE – The Nova Southeastern University women's swimming team picked up their third dual meet win this afternoon defeating Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn 172-88 on Friday afternoon at the NSU Aquatic Complex, while the men's team swam several exhibition swims between the women's events.
 
Opening with the women's 400-yard medley relay, NSU's A-relay team composed of Courtney DeVeny, Malin Westman, Caroline Oster and Emma Wahlstrom swam a winning time of 3:55.41; nearly three seconds head of Lynn's second-place A-relay.  Shortly after, Lynn's Catalina Galea Berraud took the 1000-yard freestyle by story posting a winning time of 10:30.44 to earn nine points for the Fighting Knights.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle, Brooke Munion narrowly missed a provisional qualifying time, but won the event by nearly a three-second margin with a time of 1:54.99. Wahlstrom continued to excel in the 100-yard backstroke setting her fifth provisional qualifying time in the event, this time at 56.96. Westman followed with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:05.22, while DeVeny took the 200-yard butterfly with a winning time of 2:06.82.
 
Sydney Panzarino just missed a provisional qualifying in the 50-free, but won the event with a time of 24.45. Wahlstrom followed with her second win of the meet swimming a top time of 51.49 in the 100-freestyle, which was also a provisional NCAA time. Madeline McCloskey picked up her first win in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.96 and then Westman swam her second provisional time of 2:19.46 in the 200-yard breaststroke to win the event.
 
Lynn's Galea Berraud continued her dominance in the distance events by winning the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:07.83 and then Sarah Hughes gave Lynn their third winning event swimming the top time in the 100-butterfly. NSU's DeVeny closed out the individual events with a win and a provisional qualifying time in the 400-yard individual medley. The Sharks concluded the meet by winning the 200-freestyle relay. Wahlstrom, Schullhoffer, Oster and Panzarino combined swam a time of 1:37.97.
 
Both the men's and women's team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they travel to Tampa to take on the host Spartans at 11 a.m.
