Stockton, Calif. – In the first day of the 25th annual Pacific Invitational, the Pacific Tigers came away with wins in both women's relays.  The Tigers ended the night in second in the women's competition and third in the men's through 16 events.

The night began with Pacific's team of Isabella Green, Semaj Walker, Kenna Ramey, and Vaiva Gimbutyte winning the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:44.78.  The men almost matched that as Jared Vu, Yahav Shahaff, Stewart Harrison, and Mitchell Ongstad took third with a 1:31.91, just four-tenths of a second behind Air Force's winning time.

The women's 400 Free Relay team also won their event.  That team, consisting of Gimbutyte, Ramey, Becca Aguilar, and Meredith Lillie, swam a 3:29.67 for the win.

Ongstad, Harrison, Miles MacKenzie, and Lane Goedhart swam a 3:04.38 in the men's 400 Free Relay to take third, just three seconds behind the leader.

Gimbutyte and Ramey also dominated in the 50 Free, taking first and second.  Gimbutyte just barely beat out Ramey with a time of 23.72 to Ramey's 23.73.  For the men, Ongstad came just five-hundredths of a second from the top three, taking fourth with his time of 20.88.

Curtis Klein had a great night as well with a third place finish in the 100 Back and a second place finish in the 200 Back.  Klein swam a 51.23 in the 100 Back, then a 1:49.70 in the 200 Back.  That backstroke time put him almost three seconds ahead of third place.

In the 200 Free, Jillian Hatch took second.  Hatch, swimming in her first-ever home swim meet, put up a time of 1:53.29, eight-tenths of a second behind first place.

Whitney Jorgensen also had a second-place finish in the 400 IM when she swam a 4:29.83.  Jorgensen was also a part of Pacific's fifth-place 400 Free Relay squad that finished six seconds behind the Tigers' winning squad.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of Denver men’s swimming team won five events and opened up a 45.5 point lead through eight to wrap-up the opening night of the Pacific Invitational Friday.
 
DU finished the evening with 457 points, while Air Force earned 411.5, Pacific tallied 362 points on day one for third and Fresno Pacific rounded out the team standings Friday night with 171.5.
 
Denver started off the weekend meet with a second place finish in the men’s 200 medley relay as junior Anton Loncar (Hillsboro, Ore.), and seniors Tim Cottam (Sydney, Australia), Andrew Torres (Arvada, Colo.) and Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.) touched in 1:31.73, a little more than two-tenths behind the top time in the meet.
 
The Pioneers finished 1-2 in the men’s 100 yard backstroke with Loncar (49.66) beating out Robrock (50.01) by less than half a second. Junior Jared Smith (Boulder City, Nev.) and freshman Neil Wachtler (Waco, Texas) also scored for the Pioneers in the event, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
Cottam led Denver in the 100 yard breaststroke with a second place finish, recording a time of 56.30. DU senior Travis Greenwald (Wilton, Iowa) also finished in the top half of the event, earning 14 points with a fifth place finish at 57.92.
 
Denver freshman Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) won the 200 yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:40.80 in his first collegiate meet. Senior Luke Williams (Scottsdale, Ariz.), junior Ray Bornman (Mackay, Queensland), senior Scott Bergstrom (White Salmon, Wash.) and senior Marco Russo (La Mesa, Calif.) all scored double digit points for the Pioneers, taking spots 5-8 in the event. 
 
Sophomore Kyle Ewoldt (Gilbert, Ariz.) earned Denver’s third event win of the night, finishing the 400 yard IM in 4:02.51. Senior Ben Severino (Des Moines, Iowa) took third with a time of 4:05.39 and junior Alex Walton (Atlanta, Ga.) touched fifth at 4:07.51.
 
Robrock won the 29-swimmer 50 yard freestyle, touching at 20.53. Freshman Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) clocked in at 20.95, earning Denver 14 points for a fifth place finish.
 
Loncar won his second backstroke event of the night in the last individual event of the first day for the Pioneers, clocking a time of 1:47.20. Smith took third and Wachtler finished fifth with times of 1:52.56 and 1:54.37.
 
Denver’s A relay in the 400 yard freestyle finished second with a time of 3:03.25. Freshmen Hugo Sykes (Weston, Conn.) and Farber joined upperclassman Bornman and Robrock in the A-relay. Cottam, Williams, Russo and Severino recorded a fourth place finish in the event at 3:09.02.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Fresno State women's swimming team finished the first day of the University of the Pacific's Fall Invitational. San Jose State (340) is in first place after the first eight events of the invitational, followed by UOP (318) in second place and Air Force (312) in third. Fresno State (267) sits in fourth place edging out Fresno Pacific (228) in fifth.
 
Sophomore Ugne Mazutaityte finished first in the 200 Backstroke for the second consecutive time with a time of 2:01.80. Mazutaityte also finished second in the 100 Backstroke (58.61). 
 
Senior Emma Monnich and junior Ally Short also placed in the top ten of the 100 Backstroke with a sixth place finish and a tenth place finish, respectively.
 
As for the 100 Breaststroke, freshman Manuela Mendolicchio took first place for the second consecutive meet with a time of 1:04.85.
 
The Bulldogs' 200 Medley Relay of Mazutaityte, Mendolicchio, Esme Gullick and Hannah Jarvis took sixth place with a time of 1:48.14. They were joined in the top ten by Kali Colon, Hailee Baldwin, Tarryn Rennis and Katelin Britton who placed ninth (1:51.77).
 
Freshman Natalia Nienaltowska (4:31.89) finished fourth in the 400 IM, followed by senior Esme Gullick (4:32.55) in fifth place and Hailee Baldwin (4:39.51) in tenth.
 
Junior Katelin Britton (1:56.18) and Natalia Nienaltowska (1:56.34) finished in the top ten of the 200 Freestyle for the Bulldogs.
 
The second day of the UOP Fall Invitational begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m. PT.
