Mount Saint Mary's Men Claim First Dual Meet Victories In Program History

Mount Saint Mary's claimed an historic victory as the men's squad won its first dual meet in program history.

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 8, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University men's swimming & diving team fell to VMI (124-71) and Manhattan (133-78) in its first-ever meet in program history on Saturday at the Mount St. Mary's Swimming Pool.

Brock Cudahy and Will Twizell paced the Mount at the meet, combining for five top-three finishes on the day, including three first-place showings. Cudahy took first place in both the 100m (54.37) and 200m (1:58.91) freestyle events, and Twizell placed first in the 200m IM (2:13.89. Twizell also claimed second place in the 100m back (1:01.75) and third in the 100m fly (1:00.42).

Vincent Huang posted the Mount's other first-place finish of the meet, taking gold in the 100m breast with a time of 1:06.89.

The Mountaineer relay squad of Cudahy, Liam Taylor, Huang and Andrew Quinan closed out the meet with a third-place showing in the 200m free relay, touching the wall in 1:43.43.

The Mount is back in action on November 4 for a meet with Howard at 5 p.m. Action will be streamed live on NECFrontRow.com

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 8, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming and diving team won 10 of 13 events en route to victories over VMI (153-43) and Manhattan (136-78) in the season-opening meet Saturday at the Mount St. Mary's Swimming Pool. Senior Sarah Bonson led the way for the Mount with a pair of victories in the 200m IM (2:31.33) and 100 fly (1:07.60).

The Mount dominated the freestyle at the meet, claiming first-place showings in four of five individual free events. Amanda Moore won the 100m free (59.80), Maggie deTar took first in the 200m free (2:11.39), Mary Lombardi claimed first in the 400m (4:41.82) and Bridget Vaughan won the 800m (9:44.79).

Morgan Runk registered the other first-place showing in the swimming portion with gold in the 100m back as the senior clocked in at 1:10.28.

Mount divers took the top three spots in the 1-meter dive, led by Peyton Fuller's first-place score of 150.80. Celia Thomas placed second with a score of 149.50 and Laci Vickery posted a score of 140.10 to take third.

The Mount also won both relay events, as Runk, Lauren Gullickson, Moore and deTar opened the meet with a victory in the 200m medley relay (2:04.49), and Moore, Juliette Lacoste, Hailey Vogt and Bridget Vaughan closed out the meet with a first-place showing in the 200m free relay (1:55.78)

The Mount is back in action on November 4 for a matchup with Howard at 5 p.m. Action will be streamed live on NECFrontRow.com

EMMITSBURG, Md. - The VMI men's swimming and diving team swept a tri-meet at Mount St. Mary's, leading the efforts of the Keydet programs Saturday in Emmitsburg, Md.

The Keydet men (2-0) downed the host Mountaineers, who were competing in their first-ever meet as a program, 124-71 and also defeated Manhattan by a 119-94 count. The VMI women (0-2) dropped a 126-67 decision to Manhattan and lost 153-43 to the Mount.

The men's team was led by freshman David Turbyfill, who swept the 400 and 800 free relays in his first collegiate individual races. Turbyfill touched the wall in 4:20.41 in the 400 and 9:02.23 in the longer distance.

Turbyfill's classmate, fellow freshman Jarred Nagle, was also outstanding Saturday. He won the 100 fly (59.09), was second in the 200 IM (2:17.91) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay effort that included John Kim, Bret Tomajczyk and Brady Gannon as well (1:50.37).

Kim was also a winner, prevailing in the 100 back in 1:00.21. In addition, Gannon, Nikolas Nemceff, JT Lancaster and Ryan Schmitz won the 200 free relay in 1:39.12.

Finally, VMI went 2-3-4 in the 50 free, led by Schmitz (24.90) and Nemceff (25.19), as well as 2-3 in the 100 free with Nemceff (55.78) and Schmitz (56.19).

On the women's side, Natalie Rivas was the lone victor on the day with a 28.61 time in the 50 free. McKenzie Raber earned two runner-up finishes, doing so in the 400 free (4:49.57) and the 800 free (9:53.56), while Gabbie Galvez was second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:10.24.

Rivas, Raber and Galvez were all on the runner-up 200 free effort, teaming with freshman Calle Biles to record a 1:59.14 time.

VMI men's swimming and diving is back in action Oct. 15 with a tri-meet at NJIT, while the women's program is off until Nov. 9 and returns with a tri-meet of its own at Sweet Briar College.
