Karilyn Quon Paces Saint Francis To Day 1 Lead at Colgate Fall Classic

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Saint Francis swimming team is in first place after the first day at the Colgate Fall Classic. The Red Flash won the 200-yard Freestyle Relay and placed at least one swimmer in the Top Three of all four events on Friday, including a win in the 500-yard Freestyle by Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol).

The Red Flash has a total of 203.5 points, 34 points ahead of UMass in second place. Colgate is third with 154 points, followed by Cleveland State(98), LIU Brooklyn (84), Le Moyne(36) and Lock Haven(18).

The invitational started off with Saint Francis winning the 200-yard Freestyle Relay as freshmen Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) and junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) combined for a meet-record time of 1:38.63. 

The Red Flash also had a team place fourth in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, with junior Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), freshman Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford), junior Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) and freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) had a time of 1:40.33. 

Sophomore Amanda Crnic (Conway, Ark./Conway), junior Emma Karell (Norrtlje, Sweden/Tby Swim Club), sophomore Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) and senior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) finished just outside of the Top 10 with a pace of 1:43.80 to place 11th.

Quon earned the top time in the 500-yard Freestyle. The freshman finished with a time of 5:10.57, over four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Lafferty claimed third place in the event, with a pace of 5:14.98. 

Fellow freshman Baur placed ninth, with a time of 5:23.34, while Graziano finished 12th, with a pace of 5:25.08. Freshman Meaghan Saettel (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) earned a 13th-place finish, with a time of 5:33.39.

Karell finished second in the 200-yard IM, with a pace of 2:12.14. McLean earned a seventh-place finish in the event, with a time of 2:14.64. Freshman Laura Patrick (Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic) claimed 13th, with a time of 2:16.57, while sophomore Marisa Daly (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) placed 15th, with a time of 2:17.02.

In the 50-yard Freestyle, Lafferty earned a second-place finish, with a time of 24.52. Baur placed sixth, with a pace of 25.05, while Bowman finished ninth, with a time of 25.18. 

Tedjasukmana placed 12th in the 50-yard Freestyle, finishing in 25.35, while O'Neill tied for 16th, with a time of 25.55.

The invitational concludes on Saturday, with action beginning at 10 a.m. Events scheduled for Saturday include: 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 400 Freestyle Relay, 1,650 Freestyle, 100 IM, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 200 Medley Relay.
