Transfer Ella Moynihan Lights Up Miami's Red-White Scrimmage

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University’s swimming and diving team opened up its season with the annual Red and White intrasqaud meet at the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday morning.

Transfer student-athlete Ella Moynihan had a great showing, winning the 200-, 500- and the 1000-yard freestyle in her first meet as a Miami swimmer.

The RedHawks other transfer student-athlete, Abby Stone, picked up a win of her own, besting everyone in the 50-yard freestyle.

Senior Stephanie LeMire won the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.

Freshman Izzy Herb started off her Miami career well, winning the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke.

Sophomore Allison Pierce and Becca Knapper tied for the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly. Fellow freshmen Brianna Alexander and Herb finished right behind them, taking the third and fourth positions.

As for the men, newcomer Nicholas Wukovits excelled in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM winning all three events.

Senior Lucas Brock found himself three wins in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle races.

Sophomores James Wray and Rob Newman swept the backstroke and butterfly events, respectively.

As for diving, NCAA runner-up, Pei Lin swept both the three- and one-meter dives for the women. Senior Sean Sargent won the men’s one-meter dive and sophomore Harrison Moncino won the three-meter dive.

The RedHawks did a mixed 200-yard medley relay, and the team of sophomore Jake Precious, LeMire, Newman and junior Katie Kuhl took first place.

In the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay, senior Brittany Dudzinski, junior Ross Westrick, Campbell and freshman Nicholas Ward claimed first place.

The Miami men and women will start their competition season on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. at Wright State.
