BYU Women Take Down Oregon State, 178-83

SALT LAKE CITY– A 178- 83 win highlighted the evening as BYU’s Women’s Swimming Team defeated Oregon State Friday evening in Salt Lake City.

“The meet was successful, especially with our women’s team winning against Oregon State”, BYU head coach John Brooks said. “Our team increased its competitiveness as the meet went on and we fought for the win”. Utah’s women’s team also defeated OSU, but did not factor in the scoring against BYU.

Lauren Shaw Taylor, a senior from Kansas City, contributed a big win for the Cougars in the 200 backstroke, clocking a time of 2:05.71.

In the 200 individual medley, the BYU women’s team took the top four finishes, starting with Riley Merrill with Mariah Lindsay, Kelly Hatanaka, and Taylor Ballard following close behind.

Cougar Tiare Coker helped lead the 200-yard free relay team to victory, swimming the first leg in 24.80. The relay team clocked a time of 1:37.55 and wrapped up the 14-event meet with the final win of the evening.

There were no diving events contested in the meet because Oregon State does not field a diving team.

The BYU Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Teams will travel to Grand Junction, Colorado where Mesa State will host the Intermountain Shootout on October 7 and 8 with the first meet starting at 5 p.m. MDT on the 7th. This invitational will also include swimmers from the University of Utah, Air Force Academy, and Liberty University.
