Westminster Splits With Wooster

Westminster split a pair of dual meets against Wooster.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams competed in a non-conference dual meet against The College of Wooster at home on Saturday.
 
The Titan men’s team (2-1) won 193-100, while the Titan women’s team (2-1) lost, 148-145.
 
For the Titan men’s team, junior Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) earned three individual wins and was part of a winning relay. Stahara won the 200 freestyle (1:44.87), the 100 freestyle (47.78), and the 500 freestyle (4:59.09). Stahara was also the third leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:27.61); junior Daniel Bogen (Canfield, OH / Canfield), junior Scott Morosetti (Pittsburgh, PA / South Park), and sophomore Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) completed the foursome. Spencer also won the 50 freestyle (21.96).     
 
Sophomore David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) registered two individual wins and was the first leg of the 200 medley relay team (1:39.48). Peffer touched first in the 100 backstroke (54.42) and the 200 backstroke (1:58.55). Senior Sam Angelo (Warren, OH / Warren G. Harding), Spencer, and freshman Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) completed the 200 medley relay. Angelo also won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.62), while Kwalick won the 400 IM (4:28.44).
 
Freshman Thomas Somora (Grove City, PA / Grove City) (200 breaststroke/2:20.93), freshman Aaron Dunlany (Boardman, OH / Boardman) (1,000 freestyle/10:26.77), and junior Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin) (100 butterfly/53.54) each earned individual wins.

For the Titan women’s team, first-year Abby Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) was part of two individual wins and two relay victories. Jones won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.00) and the 200 breaststroke (2:33.25). Jones was also the second leg of the 200 medley (1:54.66) and the third leg of the 200 freestyle (1:41.32) winning relays. First-year Gabie Johnson (Dover-Foxcroft, ME / Foxcroft Academy), junior Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park), and sophomore Carolyn Novak (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) completed the 200 medley relay, while Novak, first-year Alyssa Hampton (Anchorage, AK / AJ Dimond), and senior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) completed the 200 freestyle relay. Tillie also won the 1,000 freestyle (11:05.06) and the 400 IM (4:50.79), while Novak touched first in the 50 freestyle (25.56).
 
Westminster is back in action Wednesday, November 16 when it travels to Washington & Jefferson College for its PAC dual meet season opener with a 6 p.m. start time.
