Wagner Clinches Win Against Saint Francis

Wagner picked up a victory against Saint Francis on Saturday.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Saint Francis swimming team dropped a 149-113 decision at Wagner on Saturday. The Red Flash earned first place finishes in six individual events and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. SFU is now 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the NEC in dual meets this season. Wagner improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the NEC.

Junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) claimed three first place finishes on the day. The first came in the 200-yard Freestyle, where Lafferty touched the wall in a season-best time of 1:55.08. Senior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) came in fifth in that event, with a time of 1:59.57.

Lafferty then won the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 24.33, to win the race by over six-tenths of a second. Fellow junior Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) picked up fifth place in that event, with a pace of 25.70.

Lafferty's third individual win came in the 100-yard Freestyle, where she earned a time of 53.11. Junior Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) had a time of 55.08 to finish fourth in the 100-yard Freestyle.

Freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) continued an impressive rookie season with two individual wins.

She claimed first place in the 1,000-yard Freestyle, with a time of 10:38.86 to finish nearly five seconds ahead of second place. Fellow rookie Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) was the fifth-place finisher in that event, with a time of 11:12.14.

In the 500-yard Freestyle, Quon had the top time in the race, touching the wall in 5:10.85. That was a little under four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. McLean claimed fourth place in the event, with a time of 5:23.78.

Freshman Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) won the 100-yard Butterfly, with a time of 58.08. Tedjasukmana came in fourth, with a time of 59.95.

Bowman was also the third-place finisher in the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:00.13, while freshman Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) finished second with a time of 59.61. Tedjasukmana was fifth in the event, with a time of 1:00.96.

In the 100-yard Breaststroke, freshman Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished second, with a time of 1:07.47, while sophomore Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) was third, with a pace of 1:08.59.

O'Neill was also third in the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:29.39. Crumm came in fourth, with a time of 2:30.76. 

In the 200-yard Backstroke, Baur earned a second-place finish, with a time of 2:08.90, while sophomore Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) was fourth, with a time of 2:14.74. 
Saint Francis placed three in the Top five of the 200-yard Butterfly. Junior Emma Karell (Norrtlje, Sweden/Tby Swim Club) was SFU's top finisher, with a time of 2:15.70 to claim third, while O'Dell was fourth, with a pace of 2:16.64. Freshman Meaghan Saettel (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) was fifth, with a time of 2:19.06.

In the 200-yard IM, Karell finished fourth, with a time of 2:14.86, while freshman Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) was fifth, with a time of 2:18.66.

The Red Flash closed out the meet by earning first place in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. Lafferty, Baur, Bowman and Quon combined for a time of 3:34.27, the eighth-best time in program history.

Saint Francis placed second in the 200-yard Medley Relay as Baur, O'Nell, McLean and Bowman combined for a time of 1:49.34.
