Saint Michael's Splits With Clarkson

Saint Michael's split a pair of dual meets against Clarkson on Saturday.

POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's swimming & diving team started a season 3-0 for the first time in three years on Saturday by defeating Clarkson University, 146-86, in Fuller Pool. The Purple Knight men fell to the Golden Knights, 153-78, slipping to 1-1. The Clarkson men are 3-0 while the women stand 0-3.
 
Sophomore Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) posted three wins for Saint Michael's, topping the 200- (2:20.07) and 400-meter (4:58.11) freestyle races and anchoring the top 400 free relay quartet (4:28.12). She joined classmate Tess Grimaldi (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) and first-years Reiley Adelson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and Sarah White (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional) in the 400 free relay. Adelson was second in the 400 free and junior Sammy Sidorakis (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was the runner-up in the 200.
 
Grimaldi won the 50 free in 30.38, while senior Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow) was second in 30.53, just 0.02 seconds ahead of junior Ally Fischang (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee). Wiesner won the 100 free at 1:05.74, with Fischang taking second, while Wiesner joined senior Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester), junior Theresa Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) and first-year Lauren Giampietro (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) to win the 400-meter medley relay (4:51.94).
 
Junior Genevieve Gigandet (Groveland, Mass./Central Catholic) won both one-meter diving events, first with 157.25 points before accumulating 124.35, and first-year Sarah Brennan (Glen Rock, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) won the 800 free (11:07.65). Giampietro was second in both the 200-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley, trailing the 200 IM winner by 0.16 seconds, and Murphy placed second in the 200-meter butterfly. During the 200-meter backstroke, White was the runner-up by merely 0.18 ticks. First-year Megan Reid (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) was third in the 800 free while finishing only 0.12 seconds out of second.
 
Junior Spencer Ralston (Hebron, Conn./Cushing Academy) had a pair of top-two finishes for the men, winning the 800 free (9:51.75) by 0.12 seconds and anchoring the runner-up 400 medley team, joining sophomore Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) and first-years Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) and Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side). Ralston was also fourth in the 400 free.
 
Sophomore Pat Thornton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) topped the 400 free field (4:35.31), took third in the 200 free, and anchored a fourth-place 400 free relay quartet, which came within 0.38 seconds of third place. He joined Butler and seniors Stephen Andersen (Concord, N.H./Concord) and Ryan Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) on the foursome.
 
Hopkins finished second in the 50 free and third during the 100 free, while Mulderrig took third in the 200 fly and fourth in the 200 IM. Junior Tim Kinville (Colchester, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) registered fourth-place points in both one-meter diving competitions, while first-year Brian Cavanaugh (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) was fourth in the 200 breast.
 
The Purple Knights head to in-state rival Norwich University on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
