Salisbury Overtakes Frostburg State

Salisbury swept a pair of dual meets against Frostburg State on Saturday.

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams competed against Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon, as the women won 122-83 and the men captured a 146-59 victory.

Women

The women's team earned six first-place finishes and a new pool record in a winning effort for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury started off the meet claiming the 200-meter medley relay in a time of 2:08.10 with Emma Tarnosky, Victoria Radcliffe, Layne Gable and Bizu Baldinazzo each contributing to the win.

In the 100-meter IM, Radcliffe notched a first-place finish and a new pool record posting a time of 1:09.80, almost three seconds ahead of second-place.

Nikky Marders earned a first-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly, posting a time of 1:13.57, just two seconds ahead of teammate Rachel Lisk.

The women continued their success in the 100-meter backstroke, as Tarnosky collected her second win of the afternoon, recording a time of 1:10.63.

Gable also continued her earlier success as she earned another win in the 400-meter freestyle, finishing in 4:58.04.

Gable, Tarnosky, Bizunesh and Maddie Snow combined for the final win of the day as they placed first in the 800-meter freestyle relay, notching a time of 9:30.63.

Men

The men's squad recorded eight first-place finishes and wrote two new pool records in their victory over Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Okan Eyigor continued his winning ways in the meet, as he was a part of two first-place relay teams and an individual first-place tally. Eyigor's first win of the day came alongside Tyler Maggio, Stephen Arcidiacono and Jake Blazer as they took first in the 200-meter medley relay, posting a time of 1:50.28.

Eyigor shined again in the 100-meter backstroke, taking the victory with a time of 59.85 seconds. Eyigor, alongside Peter Moyer, Scott Schirmer and Maggio rounded out the day collecting the final win for the Sea Gulls in the 800-meter freestyle relay, posting a time of 8:22.57.

Senior Bill James earned the third win of the day for the men. James recorded a first-place finish and posted a new pool record in the 1500-meter freestyle, finishing with a time of 18:36.67.

Moyer went on to give Salisbury their fourth win when he touched the wall first in the 200-meter freestyle, posting a time of 1:59.14, which was also good for a new pool record. Moyer shined again as he took first-place in the 400-meter freestyle, notching a time of 4:38.52.

Junior Conor Johnston also added his name to the records book when he took first-place in the 100-meter IM, posting a time of 1:04.53.

Arcidiacono earned Salisbury's eighth win of the day capturing the 100-meter butterfly finishing with a time of 1:02.69.

The Sea Gulls are back in action at home on Wednesday, November 9 as they will compete against Washington (Md.) College. The meet is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Frostburg State Press Release

The Frostburg State men's and women's swim teams combined to win eight events against Capital Athletic Conference rival, Salisbury, Saturday afternoon. However, the Seagulls defeated both teams in CAC action.

The Bobcat men fell to Salisbury, 146-59, while the women dropped a 122-83 decision. The men drop to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference and the women stand at 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the CAC.

The women's 200-medley relay started the meet off in an exciting, close race with the Seagulls. Salisbury managed to out touch the Bobcats for first place with a time of 2:08.10, just .29 seconds ahead of the Bobcat relay team of sophomore Emily Turner, sophomore Maddie Weinberger, freshman Elizabeth Myers and junior Macey Nitchie. The second-place time of 2:08.39 was also a new Bobcat school-record.

Freshman Becca Marsh continued the record-setting day with a first-place finish and new Salisbury pool record in the 1500-meter freestyle. She cruised to a win in 20:09.62. Marsh also finished second in the 400-meter freestyle (5:04.65).

Nitchie continued her winning ways with first-place finishes in the 50-meter free (27.91) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:00.67).  Her times in both events mark new school records for the Bobcats and her 50-meter freestyle time also set a new Salisbury pool record.

Turner collected a first-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:21.33; she also finished fourth in the 100-meter backstroke with a school-record time of 1:14.12.

In the 100-meter breaststroke, Weinberger set a new team record and finished first with a time of 1:17.19. She also finished second in the 100-meter IM (1:12.15).

The women's 800-meter freestyle relay team of Nitchie, Marsh, Turner and Weinberger ended the meet with a new school-record time of 9:34.86.

On the men's side, junior Christian March collected three wins and set a Salisbury pool record for the Bobcats. He started the day off with a close win in the 50-meter freestyle (24.90). He also won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.35 and set a pool record with a first place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke 1:06.92.

Junior Zach Shattuck also set a new Paralympic American record in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:33.17. Classmate Daniel Ryczek swam to two third-place finishes in the 1500-meter freestyle (18:51.00) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:48.24).

The 800-meter freestyle relay team of Ryczek, freshman Jacob Auerbach, junior Marquell Proctor and freshman Robert Brosh set a new Bobcat school-record with a time of 9:12.92.
