Franklin & Marshall Battles Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr

Franklin & Marshall competed against Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore on Saturday.

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall split a pair of dual meets at Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon, defeating the host Owls 209.5-46.5 while dropping a 162-100 decision to Swarthmore. The split moved the Diplomats' record to 2-1, 2-1 CC on the year.

Grace Pereles took the competition by storm on Saturday, recording a trio of individual victories to lead F&M. Her first win came in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 11:05.72. She was followed by Rebecca McCain, who took third in 11:34.25.

Pereles, a Potomac, Md. native, again topped the podium in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 2:15.20. That finish was just ahead of her teammate Diane Wagner, who took third in 2:22.47. She then rounded out her day in the 100-yard butterfly, again taking first as she turned in a time of 1:01.23.

Melissa Mullin also took top honors for F&M, finishing the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:31.15 to take first place. She added a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:09.85, and finished her day in the 200-yard IM, where she took third in 2:18.91.

Katherine Hirsch recorded a pair of second-place finishes on the day. In the 100-yard free she posted a time of 56.03 to take second, while her mark of 2:02.79 was also good for second in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 200 she was followed by Caroline Fry, who took third in 2:03.91. Fry earned a silver finish of her own in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 5:28.75.

Anna Hess reached the podium on two occasions, beginning in the 100-yard backstroke where she took second in 1:01.83. She backed that up with a third-place finish in the 200-yard edition, touching in 2:14.24.

Erin Fago added a third-place finish as well, finishing the 50-yard freestyle in 25.70.

F&M returns to the pool on Friday, taking on Johns Hopkins in a nonconference meet at 6:00 p.m. in Baltimore.

Franklin & Marshall men's swimming sustained its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 191-70 decision to Swarthmore in a meet hosted by Bryn Mawr. The Diplomats fell to 1-1, 1-1 CC with the defeat.

Eric Dietrich-Peterson continued the strong start to his F&M career, taking the lone victory of the day for the Diplomats in the 100-yard freestyle. He touched the wall in 48.28 to win by 0.47. His day continued in the 200-freestyle, where he finished in 1:46.59 to take second.

Timothy Gould also recorded a second-place finish on the day, clocking a time of 55.80 in the 100-yard backstroke. He was closely followed by Jack Currie, who took third in 56.68.

Richard Perry matched Gould in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall second in 54.28. Daniel Sanders was next to finish, taking third place with a mark of 54.62.

Perry rounded out his day with a third-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching in 10:50.10. Keith Kamons, Maxwell Lyons, Jonathon Sinton, and Eric Lang also recorded bronze finishes in the defeat.

The Diplomats look to get back on track this Friday, heading to Baltimore for a 6:00 p.m. meet with Johns Hopkins.
