ECU Downs UNCW, Delaware at CAA Pod Meet

ECU took down UNCW and Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the CAA Pod Meet.

HARRISONBURG, Va. --- The East Carolina men and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped the dual meet portion of its fall schedules with a pair of victories Sunday afternoon as the men posted a 132-97 victory over UNCW and the ladies defeated Delaware, 122-98, as part of the CAA Pod Meet.

With the victory, the ECU men improved to 3-1 this season and women upped their record to 4-2.

Senior Will Hicks led the Pirate men’s team Sunday with three individual first-place finishes. Hicks touched first in the 100 IM (52.77), 50 Fly (22.94) and 50 Breast (26.09). His closest race was the 50 Fly in which he finished just 0.32 ahead of teammate Maxime Cadiat, who captured first-place in the 50 Free (21.17).

Ryan Owens (200 Free), Grega Popovich (1650 Free) and Victor Santos (100 Free) also recorded individual wins, while Santos was also part of the Pirates’ triumphant 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Diver Matt Mullen swept the one and three-meter competitions.

On the women’s side, senior Marion Abert claimed first-place in the 100 (53.13) and 200 Free (1:52.04), winning the 200 by 2.38 seconds. She also swam lead-off for the 400 freestyle relay team that included Erin Polich, Julie Lajoie and Anna Svanbergsson.

Kara Fakhry was a multi-event winner as well, touching first in the 200 IM (2:10.82) and 50 Back (29.58). Other individual ECU winners included Lajoie (1650 Free) and Svanbergsson (50 Fly) along with diver Alicia Roueche, who won both the one and three-meter events.

ECU returns to action Nov. 17-19 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.
