Florida International Adds Triola to Roster

Head Coach Randy Horner has announced on Tuesday the addition of Berta Triola to the reigning C-USA Champion FIU swimming & diving team. She will join the squad at the start of the fall semester.

“I am excited to have Berta join our team,” Horner said. “She will add to an already strong middle distance freestyle group we have this fall.  Her ability to range from the 50 freestyle to the 1500 freestyle will be valuable to our team in the NCAA format.”

A native of Mataro, Spain, Triola swam for Coach Segri Garcia for CN Mataro (club team). Triola has appeared in the Spanish junior championships in each of the last four years, including last year where she posted career-best times in the 50-meter free (26.91 - scm), the 100-meter free (56.94 - scm), the 200-meter free (2.00:33 - scm) and the 400-meter free (4.15.25 - scm). During the 2013-14 season, Triola posted a top short course time in the 1500-meter free (16:48.97) as well as top times in the 200-meter free (2:04.37 – lcm), the 400-meter free (4:18.51 – lcm), the 800-meter free (8:58.61 – lcm) and the 1500-meter free (17:09.29 – lcm), finishing second in all five events. Triola appeared in the 2013 European Junior Championships in Poznan, Poland, finishing sixth in the 4x100 freestyle relay. As the anchor leg of the relay, Triola (57.98) helped Spain to a time of 3:51.72.

Swimming for 14 years, Triola plans to major in marketing at FIU.
