Three More UT Swimmers Claim Victory at Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite

Texas rising sophomore Townley Haas knocked off the likes of Michael Phelps while winning the 200m freestyle, and UT picked up additional wins from rising juniors Jonathan Roberts and Rebecca Millard on night two at the Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite.  
 
Haas clocked the nation’s second-fastest time this year in the 200m freestyle final, a loaded race featuring Phelps and five talented Longhorns teammates. Haas, the NCAA and American record holder in the 200-yard freestyle, took the win at 1:47.86 while UT rising junior Clark Smith posted the nation’s No. 3 time this year at 1:47.97.  Former Longhorn Clay Youngquist took third at 1:48.48. 
 
Phelps took fourth in the same race at 1:48.73 while UT rising senior Jack Conger placed fifth at 1:49.54.  Former Longhorn Michael McBroom placed seventh at 1:50.92 and senior P.J. Dunne took eighth at 1:55.38. 
 
UT rising junior Rebecca Millard paced the Texas women with her victory in the 50m freestyle championship final at 25.39.  Millard, who already held the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying cut in the event, edged out former NCAA champion Margo Geer, who settled for second at 25.54.  Texas rising sophomore Anelise Diener placed fourth at 26.09 while UT rising junior Mimi Schneider took fifth at 26.26.  Texas rising senior Brynne Wong added a seventh-place time of 26.78.   
 
Teas rising junior Jonathan Roberts posted a strong swim from an outside lane in the 200m backstroke championship final and took the win in lane one at 1:58.74, ahead of second-place finisher Matt Grevers, the London Olympics gold medalist in the 100m backstroke.  UT rising senior Will Glass took third at 2:00.69. 
 
Texas rising senior Madisyn Cox added a fourth-place mark of 2:00.81 in the 200 free championship final, and UT rising sophomore Joanna Evans took fifth at 2:01.73. 
 
UT rising senior Tasija Karosas placed second behind Olympic champion Missy Franklin in the 200m backstroke championship final at 2:10.98.  Franklin took the win at 2:09.45, while UT rising sophomore Quinn Carrozza placed third at 2:12.12. 
 
Former Longhorn John Martens took second in the 400 IM championship final at 4:20.85 while UT rising junior Joseph Schooling took sixth at 4:32.28.  UT rising sophomore Mason Tenney placed eighth at 4:37.23.    
 
Former Longhorn John Murray led the Horns with his third-place mark of 22.93 in the 50m freestyle championship final.
